There is a defect in some (not all) of the plastic badges used on TaylorMade clubs manufactured in 2005. This includes all of the r5 series drivers and the badges on the OS2 irons. The problem is basically that the "chrome" on the small plasic badges flaked off revealing the yellowish plastic underneath. You have nothing to worry about as far as the clubs being knockoffs, in fact this unique problem only verifies that you have the real deal, as the whole situation was a little embarrasing for TM.

If it hits the ball just as good, who cares?

It could just be an older or nwer model.

Just email Taylormade and ask them.
