A podiatrist is NOT an M.D. A podiatrist is a DPM - Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

MD stands for Doctor of Medicine. I don't think a podiatrist will be a Doctor of Medicine no matter how many years he puts in to study the foot.

Basically a podiatrist is an MD. They go through pretty much the same schooling as an MD, but they specialize in the feet. I think after their name they have a different acronyms, than MD, but there pretty much the same.

No.

M.D. stands for Medical Doctor.

Podiatrists use DPM, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

Sure, it's a small distinction, but they aren't technically MDs.

I'm a nurse and yes they are. They go to school as all the other doctors do, they just specialize in foot care. I guess they love working with feet and pick this a field of study. Just like me I love trauma and I was trained to work in any field of study but trauma was my personal choice. I hope this helps, take care
