I have had a bad cold for the past week and an on-and-off cold has persisted. It is really aggravating my throat and yesterday I lost my voice completely. It's slowly coming back, but my choir is leaving for New York tomorrow because we have a competition on Friday that we have been working up to all year. There are only three altos, so I really need my voice back as soon as possible. Any hints?

Do NOT talk or use your voice in any way unless it is an emergency until Thursday night or Friday morning. Don't even whisper.

Drink liquids that are soothing to your throat; whether it's hot or cold is up to you. If you have alot of sinus drainage, hot liquids will make the drainage thinner (that's a good thing). If you are not on any other meds, try theraflu if the symptoms fit. Tastes aweful, but works nicely.

Take ibuprofin (if you are not allergic) to reduce any swelling and/or irritation.

Use chloraseptic spray as directed for swallowing pain. They say hot tea with honey and lemons feels good too, but I personally haven't tried it.

Good luck and have fun on your trip!!
