She is 13 and 5'4 tall. I'm worried about her because she feels she is fat and isn't eating as much. Ex: All she ate today was a muffin, a piece of chicken, and a starwberry shake. What can I do to help her?

Im just trying to recover from an eating disorder so i understand the severity of this matter. Im 5'10 and 125 lbs and tried to reach unrealistic goals for along time. The best thing you can do for your friend is talk to her. Dont come upfront and just say "hey are you having troubles eating" because she will be defensive ... there is not much a person can do to make a person eat unwillingly but you can try to give her confidence by telling her how good she looks .... show her eating is healthy and maybe that boost of confidnce will stray her from a full fledged eating disorder ... if you see the symptons gettin worse talk to her parents or an adult who can get her a counseler to talk to. good luck and i hope this helps

Eating healthy is important not only for the nutrients, but also for the metabolism, especially at a growing age. You're going to want to locate a chart like the one at the link below to get the best reading on what your ideal weight should be -- I would guess show her that, but a lot of times someone can't just be "helped" by any old person if they have a real problem. I would watch to see how small she gets first, then confront if worst comes to worst & hope she sees a doc. Compared to that chart below, she is still in the the healthy weight range.

She definetly should be eating healthy by that I mean getting all the proteins she needs. Chicken is good the shake I don't know and the muffin I don't know either. She could instead eat small amounts of chicken as her protein throughout hte day as well as fruits and veggies and a lot of water. If she wants to loose weight But as a friend I would tell she wants to stay healthy and in shape not underweight and sick. Your her friend, and sometimes you need to interfer. You know her so you will know if she is taking it to far or not. Instead maybe go along with her and say I heard the best way to stay healthy is by eating right and exercising but never cutting meals or starving yourself.

That is really bad for her, losing weight takes some time. She is putting a bad strain on her heart and that could be really dangerous. I once weighted 300 lb, I now weight 175, but it took some time and some hard work. What she ate today is really bad for her diet. With any diet, you have to be careful.

Tell an adult because that sounds to me like anorexia in the making. It's not healthy at all. Anorexia is a disorder that can cause death so please talk to a trusted adult either one of your parents or someone that can get her the help she needs.

She is okay for right now. That is a fast weight loss. Keep an eye on her, but I don't think you need to worry yet.

ugh, eating like that may help loose weight, but will slow her metabolism and make it easy to gain weight and hard to loose it again... she needs to listen up in health class!
