I think it is a cult and it is so depressing to see good and smart people caught up in such irrational and logic-defying mind games. As an outsider, it just seems like if these people would critically evaluate what they claim to believe in ("Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are all the same thing, and God/Jesus/Holy Spirit put his only son, God/Jesus/Holy Spirit, on the cross so that we could all get salvation from God/Jesus/Holy Spirit.") there'd be a few questions that would be raised.

Religion is a personal choice that everyone has the right to, but Christianity contains some of the most oppressive and repressive sects of religion in the world, regardless of what the media says about Islam.

Christianity, like it's parent religion Judaism and sister religion Islam, is a religion that is made out of both fear and a feeling of superiority. It scares people into following it with the threat of eternal damnation, then it tells Christians that every non-Christian has yet to "see the light," and must be saved or they're sinners who deserve to go to hell.

It has it's good points - such as the golden rule, but it is instantly out done with it's stories of war, violence, sexism and racism.

It has slowed down or destroyed scientific advances throughout history. It continues to slow stem cell research. It has also contributed to various forms of ethnic and social prejudices, and today continues to promote campaigns against homosexuals.

There are so many different varieties that it is impossible to have one opinion on all of it. Some I like, like the UCC, especially the Open and Affirming congregations. Some I dislike intensely, such as the Westboro Baptist Church.

Ya gotta live it judiciously for it to be any good... but not everyone does:

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." – Mohandas Gandhi

You've especially got to watch out for intolerance of others:

"Faith is essentially intolerant ... essentially because necessarily bound up with faith is the illusion that one's cause is also God's cause." -- Ludwig Feuerbach

This is important, contrary to some Christians, because the Bible sometimes teaches intolerance; for example towards those with a naturalistic world-view, free of supernatural and mystical elements:

"The Church which taught men not to keep faith with heretics, had no claim to toleration." -- John Locke

Also, segments of the Christian Faith need to try and remain true to themselves... Anyone who seriously looks at it - including many, many theologians - understand the *fact* of evolution. To deny this in the face of such overwhelming evidence is precisely akin to the Church's past dogmatic view of an Earth-centered Universe. It's time to change, and these ancient views will pull down Christianity like persecution of Copernicus and Galileo.

I am of the opinion that Christianity is a mediocre idea gone horribly, horribly wrong. Many of its fundamental teachings strike me as innately harmful and damaging; its followers tend to be close-minded and bigoted; and its theology is flawed. To be fair, it shares several of these qualities with other monotheistic religions. Also to be fair, as people will no doubt race to inform me, Christianity does have adherents who aren't quite as warped as their religion tends to be. Some folk, in particular, seem to be extremely respectful and polite regarding their views. However, in general, I have found Christianity to be severely lacking in its spirituality, social, and ethical teachings; and Christians to be largely arrogant and rude.

My opinion of Christianity is very low. They worship a tyrant god who demands sacrifices of blood and insists they kill anyone who doesn't believe in him, and they need to be threatened with eternity in hell in order to be decent human beings. Not a very high opinion at all...

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and that means I am Christian and I believe in Jesus - just to make sure everyone understands what "Mormons" believe in.

Peace.

You have to believe and follow Jesus. That is all that is important in this world. We Christians are allowed to do anything else we want to no matter how bad it is , and Jesus will forgive us as long as we follow him. That is why Christianity is so wonderful. Meanwhile Jesus will torture non-Christians for eternity no matter how many good deeds they do. Praise Jesus!!

Works for me.

And the way I look at it, even if it turns out to not be true I would have led a good and morally sound life and so would my kids and family....

It's a win/win situation....
