I am just starting to play golf, and I am wondering what is the best driver to purchase? I am looking to invest in a good driver that I will keep in my bag for a few years that provides the ultimate distance and forgivness.

I use a Cleveland Hi Bore, and wouldn't change it for anything. It is a really forgiving club, and it is hard to hit a bad drive with it. It is light and well balanced.

I would get the Callaway X-460 driver.

It is very light, and forgiving.

It has the maximum ball speed allowed by the USGA, which means very long drives for you.

It has high MOI, that means you'll be hitting it straight.

It has a hot, forgiving face, your mishits won't lose accuracy and that much distance.

It's been on the Golf Digest Hot List (their rating of the best clubs) for the past two year.

It is a simple, classic all around driver.

You can get custom shafts for no extra charge.

It's not too expensive, $300 brand new.

It makes a cool noise when hit.

It is good looking.

Hope this helps you start this great game!

Buy a used one at a garage sale, or borrow one from a friend, and find out what you DON'T like about it. Length, look (more important than you think), way you hit it, etc. If you're just starting out, don't waste your money on anything new. Find out what you don't like, and widdle it down from there.
