Any ideas on how to deal with a person who only thinks about themselves? Is growing up the only answer?
I try to see the good in all people, but man it is difficult with people so selfish.

Sometimes, there is not much you can do. Either you deal with it or the person changes. For the most part, people who are selfish do not think they are! LOL Either move on to someone better or just deal with it.

Since I'm a female, I've been married 33 years very happily . I can not stand selfish people especially females, all they will do is take you for a ride, and then find their next victim. They are in serious need of a consous, so if you value your health, and money lose her and find someone who cares about life as much as you do.

Life is too short to have to deal with selfish people. Go find a nice girl who cares for you and respects herself.

unfortunately one of the most important things i've learned recently is that you can't change people, only the way you react towards them.
does she know she's selfish? what makes her selfish? is she materialistically selfish? sexually selfish? emotionally selfish?... does she not share her dessert?
is she an only child? -- maybe she hasn't learned how to share.
does she come from a wealthy family? -- maybe she's used to getting everything she wants.
one thing to remember is that YOU are in a relationship with her.. you chose her and you knew what you got yourself into.. just like you wouldn't want her to change you, don't try to change her.
it's called COMPROMISE: the art of compromise is a necessary fundamental in any relationship. don't blame her for being selfish, it's not a bad thing... but let her know it bothers her and (if it does) makes you feel like she doesn't care enough about you. women are sensitive, she'll get the picture.. but compromise your words so that you don't start a fight..
don't make her feel like she needs to defend herself. don't say, "honey, you are too selfish! i don't like it! you need to change" and don't say "you don't care about me!".. instead, change the sentences to "i" statements... "i feel like i'm not considered in your decisions.".. "i feel like you put only put yourself first" ect..
talking to her about it (which is the only thing you should do) is risky business, and may start an argument. the majority of arguments are started because one person feels attacked. don't make her feel like that and you'll be fine ;)

If you see selfishness in this girl while you are dating, then look out if you marry her. I don't know how old you both are, but if you are in your late teens or early twenties, then she will be like this for all of her life. If this trait bothers you, I say break up and run as fast as you can out of this girls life.
