My best friend's aunt is 39 and was just told by her doctors that her scans came back showing positive signs of MS. She still has to go back on Thursday for more testing to be certain. I have known this woman for most of my life, in fact her niece and I have kind of went our separate ways over the years, but I always kept in touch with aunt bobbie. I love her to death. I went to sit with her today to talk and just see how she is doing and if she needed anything. The most heartbreaking thing she said to me way "I have to learn to live like this and I can't stand it" she was crying and I didn't know what to say to her. All I could manage was "Well, you aren't sure what it is yet. The sooner you find out, the sooner you get the proper treatment and hopefully everything works out from there." I just made her sit down and rest and I did everything that needed done. What can I do to help her and encourage her. I know very little about this disease. What is MS and how does it affect people?

it is a disease that attacks the nerves and muscles and is know very treatable. They have specialists who only specialize in MS. I have 2 friends who have it and since they both went to the MS specialists, you can not tell they have it and they both work. Tell your Aunt not to worry about something that might not be and if it is..to find a MS specialist. My one friend has had it for over 28 years and she is now 63 and doing good...sometimes she has bad days but more often has good ones. Tell your Aunt to smile and think the best of things...not negative, positive. It takes a strong will but as she gets to that point she will do fine. Good
luck and it is wonderful that you love her so much. Also, help keep her positive and research it....She also need to do little things for herself....that will make her feel a lot bwetter about herself. Maybe she likes to do crosswords....at least she'll be using her mind....

First of all, my heart goes out to you. I had a co worker who had a vibrant, brilliant life that was dimmed by MS. He retired recently.

I think all you can do is be there for your aunt. She needs to know she isn't alone. It can only help you to learn all you can about MS. Do a Google search, I found out a lot on WebMD.com, at least you'll have an idea what your aunt is facing.

Sincerely, best wishes to you and your aunt.
