I think it's stupid that marijuana is illegal and alcohol and cigarettes are not. It's even stupider that it's not available for medical use with a prescription. It's definitely safer than alcohol or nicotine, and it has significiant and well-documented medical applications.
But self-medicating psychiatric disorders with psychoactive compounds tends to result in a pattern of drug would be considered typical of substance abuse or dependence rather than therapeutic drug use. Even if it seems fine at first, over time, people want it to work better, so they take increasing doses at increasing frequencies, and it ends up taking over their life. While marijuana has a low potential for addiction, it dose have some, and self-medicating a psychatric disorder significantly increases its addictive potential. Although many prescription medications have at least as much potential for abuse as marijuana dose, that potential is significantly reduced when their use is supervised by a medical professional who can control the dose that's available to the patient.
Also, marijuana has fairly significant effects beyond relieving anxiety and depression, and probably interferes with your day-to-day function while you're on it. If you were in a coma you'd experience no depression or anxiety at all, but inducing a coma is clearly not an acceptable treatment for depression or anxiety. So where do you draw the line? In order to use marijuana as a long-term treatment, you'd end up being stoned basically 24/7. How much social and occupational function are you willing to sacrifice here?

It is bad because when prohibitionists went out of fashion, they needed a new enemy to keep their businesses open.
Furthermore, it was decided to be bad because at the time, there were certain immigrants who used marijuana in religious and spiritual ways, and so the move against this drug was also unfortunately quite racist.
Marijuana is much less dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes and it is a wonder to me that those are legal and marijuana is not.
I don't smoke the stuff, it makes me sick (literally, not metaphorically), so don't read this as some sort of biased answer.

Because the government's making lots of money promoting the idea that it's bad. Because THEY benefit more from it being illegal than otherwise.
If you ask me, marijuana does less harm than cigarettes, and should be legalized. I don't understand it, either. I don't even smoke marijuana; I smoke cigarettes.

It's not bad, although it may be unhealthy ... but not anymore so than alcohol. Pot is an invented "problem" so that conservative idiots have another platform to run on. There are some seriously destructive drugs in the world, but that isn't one of them.

I hope you are joking, so you found a 'cure' for depression and anxiety. Good for you, I suppose one day you will be looking for help with drug addiction. Think about it.

If it is helping you, you can see if a doctor will prescribe Marinol for you, a legal pill that has THC in it. It's pricey, but there is no fear of getting arrested.
I think persecuting pot users is stupid. And I do not use pot or anything else that is prescribed, so I'm not biased either.

Because it’s relatively easy to grow, prepare and sell yourself. And the government fears anything that is hard to tax. This is why moonshine has so many laws against it for example. Maybe they’ll make it legal to smoke one day as long as you don’t sell it like moonshine.

It kills brain cells, put poison into you body, and slows you down. However, it is an excllent anti-depressant. If it truly work, go for it. Better than alcohol or cigs
