Congats on joing the Marines. If you are an athlete, you should have no problems with the physical training required of you. Do as you’re told and always help fellow recruits who may falter as the weeks of training progress. I once heard that there are 2 types of Marines that come out of boot camp, a smart one and a strong one. The smart one’s did it right the first time and does as he is told and the strong one got strong because of doing so many PT because he/she didn’t do it right the first time. Which one do you want to be? The Smart Marine Strong Marine?

First off. Congrats!!!!! And Thank you. Make sure that you know some of the training that you will do for basics and go ahead and start in with that so you wont be worn out during training. Make sure you run and eat healthy. And seriously....once again. Thank you. You have a lot of guts to want to be a part of this war.

I would recommend lots of running to build your endurance, the mental aspect is one you will be put to test. When you come out of boot camp you will be a different and better man and have confidance you didn't know was in you. As an old vet ,I thank you in advance for your service and duty to your country, Semper- Fi kid!

Physicaly i would recomend getting up to running 3 miles...and also some really long walks with a heavy back pack wouldn't hurt...push ups are CRUCIAL as well as sit ups crunches and pull ups too
As for the mental part there is no way to FULLY prepare for it...just remember you are about to attend HELL ON EARTH...just stay motivated shut your mouth and do exactly what they tell you to do when they tell you to do it with speed and intensity and do nothing more or nothing less

Get in shape.. run..run..run...pushups..hundreds of them..situps..the same..be prepared to be shouted at constantly. The DI's are going to break you down and de-civilianize you..never take any of it personally...they will make you a Marine. Listen..give a 100% all the time. Never, ever, quit, and trust your fellow Marine.

I have never been in the Marines, but my boyfriend was in it. He had me watch a documentary about the Marines. It's call Ears, Open, Eyeballs, Click. He said that this is exactly like his experience except that it isn't in order. Watch it and it'll help.
Good Luck!!! We are lucky to have men like you!

make someone YELL at you as much and as long as possible, the drill instructors love people who mess up and they get them out of formation and swear up a storm which usually begins with the word my grandmother and ends with why are you in my ******* corps you worthless swine, its all a mindgame to them to "weed the garden", to find the best of the best that wont put other marines into harms way by folding into pressure
