Are you so blind to think that all of history is just about Jesus? All of history just rotates around this MAN. Ceasar, Rameses the Great, Napolean, and Alexander the Great (just to name a few) did more for the ancient world than Jesus. It is true that Jesus is dead (would be kinda odd if there was some floating body in the sky) and he may have done some good things for some people, but I think that such healings like making the blind man see, making the lame walk, resurrecting the dead, and healing lepersey are just myths and legends strung together by people over the ages and by the Roman Catholic Church. So no history does matter, just not your interpretation of it.

I am an atheist. I have never said jesus is dead, for I really don't know if he ever was alive. There is some doubt that he really existed at all.

Yes, history does matter. People act on their beliefs. Such actions determine history. The underlying belief does not have to be true, for such actions to take place. Please do not confuse the two. Many people behave badly based on their false beliefs (crusades, salem witch trials), and that is the stuff of history. Their belief does not have to be real to make history.

I am an amateur historian. That means I'm really into history and I read about it all the time. I love history! What does Jesus have to do with history. Historically speaking, there really is no evidence that anyone named Jesus ever lived - at least not the Jesus that's mentioned in the Bible. I'd love to see some evidence, but I haven't found it yet. I'm still looking though.

Ha Ha. I like history. The story of Jesus and Christianity to control nations of people and wage wars is great history. I never said it didn't matter. So many people have died from Religious Persecution. I think religion has done more harm than good.
I compare it to freedom in the US. The idea of freedom is greatly desired and a great concept.
Similarly, religion is greatly desired and a great concept.
They both fail in many harmful ways in practice. Religious Persecution and High crime and social instability in the US.

The problem with the whole story is that it was written down by people who weren't even there. There is no way to tell what Jesus did say. There is no way to tell for sure there even was such a person.

It isn't about history. The Romans at that time didn't even notice him. It wasn't even a blip.

Richard Dawkind has taught them since you can criticize the OT, you can just forget about history, it is all false. Everything is false and homophobic or whatever. His whole book is one rant like that. Unfortunately people believe him?

Ah, yes, making up a quote and bashing the opposition for your quote. This was Christ's legacy. Not.

Why do theists feel the need to demonstrate their immorality on Y!A?

I've never heard anyone say that before. I know a lot of atheists, and none of them discount the actions of Jesus on the basis that he is dead.

History DOES matter.

its just that Atheists believe either that Jesus was imaginary, or just an ordinary person.

He does nothing. He is dead. And I don't know anyone who says that what he did doesn't matter. Most atheists will tell you that they think he was a good person who did good things. Christians just took what he did and made it religion. Get your facts straight.
