Most atheists I know are more peaceful than the Christians who try to emulate Christ. In my opinion, the atheist is an improved (more evolved) version of Jesus.

"Atheists mock Christians because they don't measure up to Jesus."
Untrue. If Christ is supposed to be perfect, then I know very well that no one's perfect. That's not the issue. It's only an issue when the person doesn't even try. It's not a matter of just slipping up every now and then; it's when they threaten, or judge, or make comments with tons of profanities, or use language that's dripping with sarcasm and hatred, or say things that make me wonder if they're even trying to follow in the teachings of Christ at all. And I have a problem with ANYONE who talks like that -- it's not just Christians.

YEP! Wanna see? Okay...here goes:
My mom was probably a "free-spirited" woman who got herself into a bit of trouble, and wound up pregnant out of wedlock, so she had to make up a story to keep from being stoned to death.
And, now, here, I am.
I AM HOLY...I AM THE DAUGHTER (well it's me...not jesus) OF GOD (gasp...look...i spelled it out all the way. and, know what, no lightning bolts anywhere!) I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THAT I AM GOING TO DIE AND BECAUSE OF THAT YOU CAN HAVE LIFE AFTER DEATH.
And...if you believe that, I have a really great "Jaguar" I'll sell you cheap. Ignore the fact that it says "Cavalier" on the back. That's a secret thing the manufacturers did so that really rich people could drive kick-*** cars without everyone being jealous.
Seriously, man...it's not the most intelligent question. What on earth would make you think that atheists believe Jesus was any more than just a guy born to two normal parents and not at all special...except a good public speaker?

I try to follow the teachings of Jesus, among others. If he really lived, he certainly was a wise and compassionate man. It's hard to live like people did in the late Iron Age. So many things have changed. I believe in love and I believe helping the unfortunate. I don't go down to the local Synagogue and taunt the priests there. You go to jail for stuff like that. And I'm not interested in crucifixion. That's a very painful way to go!

Can you live like Indiana Jones?
Can you live like Superman?
How can one live life like a fictional character?
Christians claim to follow this fictional (or at least greatly exaggerated) character, and claim that he takes an ACTIVE part in their lives, and is able to overcome any physical, psychiatric, spiritual or emotional calamity. They tout his power.
If Christians are supposed to "be perfect, even as their father in heaven is perfect", if they are supposed to perform good works because "faith without works is dead", and they wish to enact laws that uphold the morals supposedly described in the Bible, then it makes absolute sense to hold them to the standards they wish to impose on others.
Atheists have no need to live like Jesus Christ. They do not follow the standards of a created deity. They follow natural law and morals. They do things because they are good for humanity.

Heh, how can you be so sure that Jesus lived the way the Bible explained?
I could write a story about a perfect atheist (even better than Jesus) and tell you guys to consider it

The God in the Old Testament was a psychopathic killer. I wouldn't follow that god even if it were true.
"What was it that Adam ate that he wasn't supposed to eat? It wasn't just an apple. It was the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The subtle message? 'Get smart and I'll f*** you over' sayeth the Lord. God is the smartest, and he doesn't want any Competition. Is this not an absolutely anti-intellectual religion?"

What would Jesus do?
He probably wouldn't buy a SUV, he wouldn't need a 50 million dollar mansion, he most certainly wouldn't indulge in television, the internet would be as foreign to him as a strip club, so no, not too many people could do it.
Although now that I think about it, he probably would look in on around-the-corner bars and maybe enlighten people while he drinks a guiness. Just my opinion though.

No. I'm not willing to be the kind of person who'd kill a fig tree just because it inconvenienced me. I'd never let a woman suffer after she asked for my help just because she wasn't the same nationality or religion as myself. And I don't want to hate my parents and family as Jesus demands that Christians do.
I want to be a GOOD person. I don't want to be a Christian.

Wonder how you are such an expert on how he lived his life--certainly cannot make an adequate determination based on the very few chapters in the bible specifically dealing with his life, not all of the commentary and conjecture in later books of the bible. In other words, how can you judge how he lived based on the facts from the bible-you can't really no more than you can judge anyone else and how they live their lives.
