Instant Messaging, how would you feel if I simply said "hey" to you and then just left you alone (unless you say something back)? Would you be annoyed even if we hadn't talked in forever? Would you ignore me?

Just saying "hey" is a bit boring. most people want to know why the guy who just dropped back in fromm cyberspace is saying hello. It's also what everyone says, chances are someone may not recognize you by your avatar or email signature. Try"hey this is..... remember me? I was/I met you....
do you want to chat?" It's polite and helps avoid the embarrasment if someone doesn't remember you instantly. Good luck

Is a nice gesture. Am guessing that if she is still angry she will not reply. If she is really still angry, you will be blocked. If you are not blocked, then subconsciously, is an invitation for you to say "hi". In other words, if you are not blocked, she is more or less waiting to see if you will initiate a conversation. We all say things like this ....never want to talk to you again....in anger....when actually we mean just the opposite.!

Saying 'hi' doesn't hurt anyone - infact, that's why there are instant messenger applications. I pop in and say hi to people all the time... I don't care - if they type back, then cool. If not, oh well.

It's okay!!
I do it all the time!!
It's just being nice and showing "yeah even though we don't talk I can still be nice and say hi!!"
It would usually evolve into a full blown conversation; but it always starts with a HI!!!

if it was a long time ago, then the person would probably be over the whole issue or something. but if they're still ticked then they'd ignore ya

I wouldn't ignore you, and I wouldn't be annoyed. I would just think you were being friendly. But not everyone is as friendly as me

saying hi is a nice gesture and an ice breaker maybe she isnt angry with you anymore if she replies then fine buit if she doesnt then keep it moving.
