Unfortunately, it is a hard fact. The only kind of war that the US have never managed to successfully fight is the asymetric kind.
Like it or not, no conventional military doctrine can make it against that kind of a foe. It requires the ability to adapt and overcome, and to think miles outside the box. Something that is hard for an institution as deeply affected by doctrine as any military. It takes time to learn to fight a new kind of war, it doesn't happen overnight. In Iraq and Afghanistan, the insurgency is not just a bunch of crazy people with bombs and guns. They are dedicated, organized, smart, adaptable and extremely imaginative and inventive. They know that they can't take on any of the Coalition or ISAF forces head-on and expect to win. As such, they observe, look for flaws in our way of doing business and they hit us on what they consider their terms, which keeps things in their favour on a military standpoint. We counter one of their tricks, they come up with new ones to counter our new procedures. They are as adaptable to us as we are to them, if not more so. They are as brave as we are, if not more so. And they use their heads a lot more than the US, who, in my opinion, rely too much on technology and fancy equipment and not enough on the brains of their troops.
Are the insurgents rag-tag? Yes, they are. But are they push-overs and foes that we don't need to take seriously? Hell no. And don't get me wrong, I'm not praising them, but I have a healthy dose of respect and fear for their military potential. I have to in order to truly have a chance to survive and come home in one piece when I'll hit Afghanistan this coming summer.
As such, Erudite, your conclusion is flawed. While rag-tag, the insurgency is not weak and they are not to be underestimated only because they don't have the firepower, numbers and technology of a regular military. They are simply a lot more creative in the ways they use their ressources.
And brother, if you think you can take me, or any other soldier on because the insurgency manages to hit us whenever they see an opening, be my guest. But I suggest you bring friends. Attack one soldier, you get to deal with a whole lot of us.

that's no longer the insurgents that are making it no longer ordinary on the protection rigidity. The insurgents are in straight forward terms a gaggle of rag head lunatics that would certainly be wiped from the face of the planet if the protection rigidity grew to become into allowed to look after company. regardless of the undeniable fact that, there are too many bleeding heart arm chair quarterbacks right here interior the states that cry each time a civilian is killed. Sorry persons regardless of the undeniable fact that that's conflict, harmless human beings do die. the only element protecting our protection rigidity back from victory are sorry *** voters who in no way served an afternoon of their existence and have no concept what desires to be carried out to win.

Apart from all which has been said, look at the rules which the insurgents go by. We have to go by the rules of war and is held over a barrel by the media and when our way of fighting does not show we have gained all of the land in a year or less, our military has failed and are not that tough.
If CNN would show all on both sides they would have to eat their words. They wont.
You want to take on a military person? Does "angels fear where fools tread" ring a bell?

Ok One" in iraq we kick the living s**t out of every insurgent we come in contact with the only reason it SEEMS like we're loosing is cuz they use car bombs and never actualy fight...Two: No one beat us in Vietnam once again every engagement with the enemy ended in either them retreating or us completely devastating their forces and it SEEMS like we lost that war because we pulled out...but when we pulled out a cease fire had been signed and the Nroth didn't invade the South untill we were gone and congress wouldn't let Ford get us back in there to drive them out again and THREE: the reason you can't beat a Military man is because they're mostly really good fighters and your probably not

Its hard to believe that i am sending my husband over there to fight for morons like you. Alot of people dont agree with us still being over there but we all still support our troops. They are not all doing this because they support the war, they are doing it because they made a promise to protect the american people. And judging by the attitude and errogance of your comment, they could look at you in a certain way and you would fall to the ground in tears! If you think they are not doing a good job, then you go try to do it traitor!

Conclusion: You ask questions only to make someone angry. You can take on a military man if you wish, though it's unlikely you have the stomach for it unless behind a keyboard.

Exactly how are they beating us? We kill more of them everyday & their cause is not just. Quit believing everything libs tell you & go ask people who've served there. The majority of them will tell you they are making a real difference no matter what the lib media wants you to believe. Yes - you can hurl your insignificant insults at me anytime.

What a joke. Pretend to have national backing and then get slaughtered by the same political infighting that makes your military cause weak.

agreed!! To win in Iraq you have to basically kill them all because they are all part of one team or another. They are a very town and local community oriented people and each is allied with a FACTION of either sunni or shi'ite. There are no real teams over there just bunches of small groups. Right now we are lead by a bunch that says we should raid this or that. All to further their individual goals.
