Sally's Beauty Supply has a Helen of Troy line...I think I paid around $12-$15 for mine and used it nearly every day for 4.5 years...it gets really hot and I only got rid of it because the cord was so twisted it was hard to use. Sunsilk has a line of products that match their shampoos and conditioners that I love, pick the one that's appropriate for your hair type. My hair's thick and curly so I use the lime green one which is supposed to make your curls de-frizz--it's a nice blend of a styling cream and gel, I've used plenty of products and haven't found one that beats it yet.

When my Revlon curling iron died, I went to Walmart and got the Conair Infiniti ceramic iron. I love it. It has pretty high temps for hard to curl hair. Just use a heat-protecting product on the hair so you don't burn it. The highest heat setting may be a bit too much for your hair. I paid about $26 for the Conair Infiniti.

The Chi irons are good and they're only $100... that's a major investment considering you'll get a lot of use out of them and something with the technology and ceramic plates is better for your hair than standard metal plates.

Regarding the frizz guard, try Bed Head products or consult with your stylist and see what he/she recommends.

conair makes great inexpensive irons (around $20), I'd also recommend using HeatGlide from Redken (a small bottle's probably 7 bucks) if you're going to do a lot of ironing...for curls, I'd check out the redken line for curls too.

from a hairdresser......i LOVE conair from kmart, walmart...wherever. It has the heat dial and it works just as well as some of my proffesional curling irons.
