Sex or sexual acts with somebody other than your spouse.

My definition is that I cannot do anything I would not do with my husband present.

Good question. What is the definition of adultery? Biblical speaking, adultery can mean more than it does in the traditional sense. Today, adultery commonly means to voluntarily have intercourse between a married person and another other than the lawful spouse. Consider, however, Jeremiah 3:9, ""And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks." (KJV). Here, God has "divorced" Israel" yet no sexual act was committed. My definition, call me a skeptic if you will, is the one of the traditional sense. The most well-known definition. The definition we all think of when we hear the word adultery. The act of going out on our spouse, of leaving our spouse for another. The ultimate betrayal. The lowest of the lows. For better or worse? I wonder.

As used in the Bible, adultery generally refers to voluntary sexual intercourse by a married person with one of the opposite sex other than one’s mate, or, during the time that the Mosaic Law was in effect, such intercourse by any man with a married or a betrothed woman. The Hebrew root meaning “commit adultery” is na·’aph′, while its Greek counterpart is moi·kheu′o.

Mark, like Matthew (Mt 19:3-9), recorded Jesus’ statements to the Pharisees regarding divorce and quoted Christ as saying: “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if ever a woman, after divorcing her husband, marries another, she commits adultery.” (Mr 10:11, 12) A similar statement is made at Luke 16:18, which reads: “Everyone that divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he that marries a woman divorced from a husband commits adultery.” Taken alone, these verses seem to forbid all divorce by Christ’s followers, or at least to indicate that a divorced individual would not be entitled to remarry except after the death of the divorced marriage partner.

The legal definition, in my state, and I think all others, is a married person having sex with a person not his/her spouse. My definition is the same. My ex commited adultery (which is why he's my ex). If my boyfriend were to have sex with another woman, it would hurt, but it would have no legal ramifications. In a marriage, adultery gives grounds to dizzolve a marriage, and also impacts on alimony.

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothing else
He'll trade the world
For the good thing he's found
If she's bad he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down

When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Tryin' to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way it ought to be

Adultery is generally defined as consensual sexual intercourse by a married person with someone other than his or her lawful spouse. In many jurisdictions, an unmarried person who is sexually involved with a married person is also considered an adulterer.

A married person having sexual relations with someone who is not their spouse.

Non-intercourse intimacy is not adultery, but it still probably counts as cheating and is wrong because it hurts the spouse.
