Sparta fought Persia almost 500 years before even the birth of Christ, much less the birth of Islam.
Even though Islam was birthed out of Persia and the Movie 300 portrays Persia rather grotesquely, are some Muslims justified in their complaints regarding this Movie or is this just another rediculous over reaction by a backwards people?

I thought Iranians were Muslims? A Sand Monkey is a Sand Monkey as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think anyone can complain about what happened in the year 500 B.C. no matter what your race is. I'd tell them that time heals all wounds (or should at least) and that movies like that are made to show the horrors the world "knew" not ones they "know" now. If the movie is making a commentary on how this violence has not changed, then Muslims have a reason to get upset, which then I would argue back that the truth hurts (if in fact it is historically accurate and not an over-statement).

Its as rediculous as when the Jews went ape over Gibson's film, except no Muslim's are dressed up in Holocaust costumes outside the theater with signs.
Now Persians (Iranians) of any faith have a right to be weirded out by the film. Their greatest EMpire has ben turned into a civilization of monsters led by a pierced up, gayish, black dude. But to get publicly upset about it is just political organizations trying to stay busy.

It's Iranians that are upset, not all Muslims. They think Hollywood has declared a war on Iran by portraying the Persians as the attackers.

Not Muslims, Iranians.
I've actually seen Iranians debating whether they should be offended by the movie's portrayal of the Persians in online communities. Most say it is just a movie.
I've not seen the movie, but I'd imagine its just a movie.

Apparently the truth hurts sometimes.
My high school english teacher was from Iran. He and his friends in college were staging a peaceful protest in Iran. Soldiers arrived, he and his best friend assured his fellow classmates that nothing would happen because it was a peaceful protest and the soldiers were their brothers. The soldiers opened fire, his friend fell to the ground, his white robes soaked with blood and all around his classmates were being gunned down. He barely escaped with his life. This is Iran. Hasn't changed much in a couple thousand years.

Thsoe who are particularly offended by the movie are iranians, not Muslims in general.
However, the message of the movie in regards of "the west versus east" is obvious.

I don't think any of them have seen the movie.
It's an interpretation of history and not a documentation of it. It's a work of fiction.
They should get over themselves and not be so pompous. The first thought that ran through my head was not "Boy, those Iranians are a bunch of heathens" but "Damn, that was an awesome movie!"

It's a rediculous over reaction just like most of the answers here on Yahoo are rediculous over reactions.
