Drink ice water or eat ice cream to numb the gums. It won't hurt for long. Take some aspirin maybe and go to bed early.

Peace!

Oh boy, I had braces for 4 years.

I suggest a heat-pad, that seems to help. Try not to eat anything cold or anything that takes a great deal of chewing right away. Warm stuff, like Hot Co-co or soup is always good.

Oh and always motrin or ibproben works!

Good luck! It does get better, until you go back to the Dentist again..lol

Take ibuprofen. That helped me a lot. Also, when I first got my braces, I found a great website ... archwired.com ... for people with braces. They have a fantastic board where you can get tons of advice any time on everything from the pain and discomfort of new braces to dealing with all kinds of mini-emergencies that can arise with braces. These people really made my adjustment to braces a lot easier!

Oh- so sorry. The only thing that I can recommend right now is motrin.
If a regular schedule of motrin doesn't keep it in check- you may need to ask your ortho for something stronger while the teeth shift around a bit.
It will get easier.
Always let your parents and ortho know whats going on. They can help you best.

Good luck.

properly the brackets will sense strange once you first get your braces placed on because of the fact your gums heavily isn't used to having something rubbing against it. they may be scraping your gums a sprint, so be sure to apply wax to placed on them. (ask your orthodontist for some) properly... braces may be especially painful once you first get them on, yet they are actually not undesirable after that. the only different time it hurts is once you get a sparkling cord and in line with danger your first tightening or 2. desire this enables!

Take anything but tylenol for the pain.
Do aerobics, such as jumping jacks to get the blood flowing better, that will cut down the pain, too.
