I can understand you got mad, but I still think your reaction was excessive, when a guy is drunk and you touch him in any manner it's likely he'll get violent. Next time *only* pull away from him, don't ever grab someone or punch back at least not in an establishment... outside is something else, with no other people around he could easily have tried to do more to her... but indoors? Best she could've done was just pull away and then call the manager to get only the drunk thrown out. I've had drunks feel me up and I've only laughed at what an *** they were making of themselves; they're drunk, they don't know what they're doing, I'm not drunk, I do know what I'm doing and I'll keep my head cool. Pull away, get the *management* to toss the dude, over and done with. That way the peace is restored in minutes and everyone but the drunk could enjoy the evening afterwards.

You didn't act in self defense. You committed assault by grabbing his hand. True, he did so first, but neither you nor your girlfriend were in immediate physical danger.
Had you kept your cool and instead of grabbing him, told the bartender, the police would have been called and he would have been arrested and ejected. Still, that would have not likely not made the evening go much better.

I think my fiance would have done the same thing, if not more. However, instead of punching back, perhaps you should have done only what you needed in order to fend off his attack, like block him. Since the other guy was drunk and he started the trouble, I think that he should have been the only one thrown out (if you had done nothing else violent that evening).

Dear god I would have f***ed that guy up a heck of a lot worse than you did. I think it was d** calm of you to not knock the guy out! It was completely right for you to punch that freak, but the restraunt also had to kick both of you out, it wasn't their fault either, they had no possible way of knowing what really happened.
My best to you girlfriend who seems like the real victim here.
