when a therapist says "how does that make you feel," what technique are they using. I am looking for terminology, not an explaination. Please help.

That is pretty much a classic Rogerian (Carl Rogers) technique. Clarifying, Empathetic Listening.

It is pretty cliche' in the world of counseling.

It's a GARBAGE question. I don't think it was Rogers; if you watch Rogers in a session, he really never asks questions. I think it's done more on television than in actual sessions.

that's a bad question. Reframe it "How do you feel about that?" They just want to know what feelings you have about the issue at hand.
