I think you need a second opinion. Can you see another ENT? Tell your family doctor that you continue to suffer and see if he/she can offer suggestions about what you can do. If you truly have GERD, you should be seeing a gastroenterologist, not an ENT. Be assertive and ask your doctor for another referral.
Can you drink some milkshakes and some soups so you will have a more well-rounded diet? You also must get more Vitamin C so your mucous membranes will be healthy. Maybe try some Hi-C juice that doesn't contain citrus juice, or if you're able, take a multi-vitamin. The one-a-day are small and are coated to slip down easily. Be sure you aren't swallowing air continually in an attempt to see if the bad feeling is still there. That will only make GERD, if that is what you have, much worse.

you have acid relux, I had the same problem, the feeling of something stuck is right at the back of the tounge. What the doctor said there is a flap at the back of your tounge, and when it swells up, it gives the gaging stuck feeling.
I use Zantac 150, daily that 2 tables which I get off the shelf, since the prescription cost lots more. It is the same meds, only a smaller doseage.

It could be that you have an enlarged thyroid (or a goiter)!!
I am hypothyroid, and when i'm off my meds, or the doseage needs to be increased, i sometimes feel like a lump in my throat!!! It feels kind of like i swallowed a ball, and it got stuck in my throat!!
Do you have cold arms or legs?? Do you have dry skin or coarse hair?? Do you have brittle fingernails?? Do you have depression, fatigue, excessive sleepiness, muscle cramps, high cholesterol, weight gain or dizziness??These are symptoms of hypothyroidism!!
You need to see a doctor, if you are experiencing any of these!! There are tests they can do to determine if you are hypothyroid, and if you are, there are pills you can take to help.
GOOD LUCK!!

I have experiences the same symptoms at the age of only 16. I went to the Earnoseandtrhoat doctor too and did all these horrible tests on me and spent alottt of $ for them to tell me they didnt kno and it was nothing. Carbonation from softdrinks played a role. when i cut out on those it helps. I hope u get better help than i did. It really is embarrassing "hauking" up my food in front of family and friends. Many meals of mine have ended up in tears..
Good Luck!!

Hi,
I'm a medical researcher. It is widely agreed among physicians and medical paraprofessionals, that initial diagnosis, mostly by using a typical acid reflux symptoms questionnaire, is necessary to ensure the most effective and quick treatment for this condition. Approx 70% of the acid reflux diagnostics that are based on the presence of typical symptoms are accurate. Since acid reflux, also called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), can cause patients a great deal of discomfort and result in severe complications, it is highly important to know how to identify its symptoms in order to quickly diagnose and treat it.
If you know you have acid reflux you can try this natural program http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=568
Cheers.

OK, I had a similar sensation-it felt like i had a peanut in my throat for weeks. I would stick my finger down my throat to loosen it or feel it, and nearly barf each time, but I had to do something. I didnt see the Dr, but I figured out what it was.
I get something called, tonsil stones. I had tonsilitis a lot as a kid, so my tonsils have deep pockets and cavernous holes...I stuck a qtip in and around one of the craters and a big white-yellowish thing came out. I took it out and pinched it and it stunk to high heaven! Like the worst case of bad breath you've ever smelled! Its a build up of food, saliva and other nasty kinds of sinus drippings that collect and solidify in the holes of my tonsils.
If you still have tonsils, get a mirror, a bright light and look way back in your mouth/throat, stick out your tounge and look right at the back of your tounge, where your tonsils touch it. You can push up on the tonsil sack thing and look down in, maybe find nasty smelling/looking cottage cheesey junk in there too. Dredge it out and get some relief-if that's what it is.
If you dig around back there, be careful, you can make yourself bleed pretty easy-its very delicate in there. Use a cheap qtip, not the big fluffy ones, a smaller, narrower tipped one. Or use a big bobby pin, straightened out, get the ones with a covered tip...and use a clean one, this is in your throat!
Or use a water pick, but not on the water jet spray setting, use the tounge scraper thing, it'll make your tonsils bleed otherwise. And think about that nasty dried blood breath, yuck.
Good luck-hope its just something minor like tonsil stones!
