Interesting concept, who knows, could be true. Just as much a chance that it is true as the faithbased beliefs most people have. Mary and Joseph had to be buried somewhere. Interesting too that they remove the bones and bury them, but keep the ossuries. Certainly the Israelis don't want any of this to be true, it would hurt their tourism and US financial support if christians suddenly were presented with evidence that was contrary to everything they believed--though how the convoluted versions in the various gospels don't throw off a lot already, I can't understand. Sure in one gospel Jesus ascends to heaven, but he doesn't in another. Which should be believed?
FYI: Did not ascend in Matthew; did in Mark & Luke; no mention of ascending in John.

I didn't watch it, it's more fun to watch Christians get apoplexy over it. So what if they found names associated with the bible, they were common names. There is no way to prove it was the actual Jesus, as there is no evidence the actual Jesus ever existed, and there certainly isn't a DNA sample. And even if it could somehow be proven in a way acceptable to science, the believers would reject it because they use faith, not facts to decide.
One thing the show did do, was get out in the open the discussion that Jesus was just an ordinary man, if he actually existed, and I'm one of those who think he didn't. It is important for that not to be a taboo subject, it should be openly discussed. That's the first step to break us out of this culturally shared delusion of religious belief, one deity at a time.
As an aside.....Discovery markets itself as a channel of science and learning, but it shows some pretty lame pseudoscientific and paranormal stuff . Sharkweek is pretty cool, but credulous programs on ESP, UFO's, alien abduction, psychic healers, ghosthunters etc in primetime does not send a good message of critical thinking.
It sometimes hard to believe it's the same channel that shows MythBusters

The "Lost Tomb", like Dan Brown's "DaVinci Code", has just enough "fact" and is presented in such a way that it could easily convince people who have not studied the details that it (they) are true.
I do not know that I am "up in arms", but I have posted a few things for people to think about in connection with both. It is always a good thing to have all the information, not just one side, of an issue.

It was interesting that, in this family tomb that supposedly contained the remains of Jesus, his "wife" Mary Magdalene, his mother Mary, and other relatives, DNA testing was done only on the remains of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. There was no genetic match, so they assumed that they were married. If they had done DNA testing on the remains of Jesus and the others and did not get a match, that would have been the end of the story. The producers, conveniently, ran out of money for further DNA testing.

I thought it was cool. Even though I'm an atheist, I'd love for there to be evidence of a real person named Jesus. I mean, most legends have some sort of basis in fact. Why shouldn't the Jesus legend? Turns out the show was wrong. But it sure did stir up a bunch of controversy!

I think that it is an OK case and it is possible. They left a lot undone. If you were to get the bones, extract DNA and map the whole family relationship in the tomb, it would change the whole argument.
If it all matches the way they claim it should, it becomes a statistical slam dunk. If it doesn't, it becomes a funny coincidence. I am personally skeptical that it would match.

They always do this around this time. I wonder why. They come up with these "truths" that "under mind" the Jesus "story". How many people are named Jesus now? How many then? How many named Marry today? What about then? Soon and very soon we will see the King. That will more in likely prove to everyone he is FOR REAL.

It is not really that credible of a show. Many archaeologist have discredited this documentary and personally I think it has a lot of fake science it uses to try and convince people.

I think it might have helped some people realize that jesus was just a man. And I agree how some people go overboard with this "faith" thing and say that anything that doesn't fit their beliefs is a fraud.......so sad, such closed minds!

Well I didn't think much of it. it is a twenty year old story. And the only thing I think they proved was that people had similar names and they had DNA.
