What if you arent a strong swimmer? Do they assist you during basic training?

I dcouldnt swim a lick before I enlisted, I still don;t swim well but i swam decent enough to pass sqim quial, swim qual is more of survival swimming at least back when i went thru it in 90, I wouldnt worry about tit too much

You will have to pass your swim qualification before leaving boot camp. They do make the poor swimmers go to a type of swim class until they pass, but I would go to the YMCA or something on your own before getting to boot camp. I wouldn't want to learn something like that under pressure I don't think. You have enough stress in boot camp, swimming should not be on the list of more stuff to worry about. The YMCA has an outstanding swim program for teaching anyone of any level how to swim. Look into it.

u dont have to swim 5 miles to become a Marine!! where did that come from? i know Marines who left boot camp unqualified swimmers

before you finish training you will swim 5 miles with gear.

I would reccomend it but its not really a requirment...there are people in boot camp that couldn't swim at all but i still wouldn't recomend going with no experience.

Don't believe so. The Coast Guard would be a different story, but you should be okay for the Marines.

No, if you can't swim when you get to water survival training they will teach you what you need to survive.

No!!!! Many marine specilties require no swimming ability at all. For example, communications, aircraft support, supplies, administration, clerks, truck drivers, infantry, armor, technical support, computer support, and many more.

no you dont they will teach you to be a very good swimmer along with other surival tattics
