first, buy the potty, put it in the bathroom, and let your child play with it, and around it, without talking about what he is going to do with it.
next, buy the story book, once upon a potty, and read it with your child, several times.
then let your child practice sitting on the potty, with his diaper on, in the morning, before bath time, and any time he follows you into the bathroom, yes, we all know you have No privacy!
finally, let your child sit on the potty without the diaper, and hope. Timing is helpful, you probably have a fair idea of your child's potty schedule, which will help . give lots of praise for success, and when your child has a dirty diaper, or training pants, you might want to put the poop in the potty first, as a reminder.
This takes a while, but better to work with a relaxed schedule so neither of you stress about it.
PS my mother always said that if you let your baby run around without pants or diapers, they will learn more quickly when they get the signal to go, as they end up with wet feet. of course, this is a little hard on your floors!

I got a potty seat, toddler wipes, and big girl panties for my daughters 2 year birthday, we started that day, taking her several times a a day, when she would "go" we did the potty dance, that means dancing in a circle singing "potty, potty, potty, do the potty dance " I know this sounds crazy but she would just laugh, and could not wait to go potty to see mama dance. She is 3 now, and never wore another diaper. Hope this helps!!

I've heard two methods that have proven effective:

Make your kid walk around naked for a few days. I heard the sensation will make them aware of when it is time to go and they can see the mess they make if they don't do something about it. It may be a messy clean-up for the first 24 hours; but I heard that this method is the quickest and easiest.

I've also heard of the Dr. Phil way; which is to pep your child up about his/her favorite cartoon or character. Tell her/him that Dora (for example) will be calling her as soon as she goes potty for the first time. The minute she does, have a friend or relative call and pretend to be Dora. They can talk about going potty and how proud she is of your daughter. Also, throwing a party for her potty time on the day it happens. Invite your mom or your sister over for dinner and have cake to commemorate the event.

my 17 month old started taking her clothes off and diaper, so I bought a potty chair and pull ups we have not used the pull ups yet but when I go to the bath room she goes she sits on her potty and I sit on mine nothing has happened yet, I don't think she actually understands the concept yet but then she wipes and flushes and washes her hands, this is ho we are starting her getting her used to the potty first, some kids take a long time to potty train my brither was 4 aND A HALF.

Put a potty in a convienent place for your child and let him/her explore it at his/her leisure.

Let your child see you and any older siblings using the toilet.

Give your toddler as much "naked" time as you can. If you are worried about accidents in the house, try to do naked time over a tile/wood floor or out in the backyard.

Check out the book Diaper Free. It has great advice on helping a toddler to learn to use the potty.

My daughter loved the Bear In The Big Blue House. So we got her "potty time" with Bear. It worked great! You might try it.

my daughter, for some reason never would use a little potty but we got her a seat that sits on the big potty so she doesn't fall in and it has handles for her to hold on to

i took her to the store and told her i was going to let her pick out her big girl panties but she couldn't go pee pee in them she picked some Dora and some Disney ones and she really loves them and she doesn't have accidents in them

i have also always let her come into the bathroom with me when i was going so she could see what she should be doing

but the best advise i can give is let him/her be the one to decide when they are ready and from all kids ive seen when they decide they want to be big training them is easy they practically do it themselves
