I also wonder why so many europeans, americans, australians, and japanese make Thailand their retirement home and the trend is on the rising curve for many years. If I have to explain, I may say:
1. People you have to live with, your wife, people live in the neigborhood, and those you have to deal with. Thais have no prejudices against any races, religions, or origins.
2. Cost of living, ..it's affordable and cheap. Thailand is agricultural country and everywhere you go you can find foods and hardly find starve people in Thailand.
3. Weather.. it's located in the tropical area, warm, hot, humid but no severe weather like snow storm, hurricane, etc. You can relieve your heat by staying under the tree shade or in the airconditioning car, building or spend time in theatre, shopping center, etc. Go swim in the pool or go to beach and enjoy the warm sea water in the gulf of Thailand or Andaman sea.
4. International standard, reasonable and affordable health care. Thailand is the center of regional health care, especially in Bangkok which is second to none.
5. Food.. Great.. can't find other words to describe Thai food. If you're boring of your wn cooking then, you can find any kinds of foods in Thailand, european, indian, chinese, japanes, indonesian, korean, italian, etc. Thousands of restaurants every where you go.
6. Considerably stable politics eventhough there's a coup in the recent day but nothing affect day to day living and business. Thailand's policy is to be friend with all nations of the world.
7. Good infrastructure, transportation system, internet, electricity, TV, phones, mass comm., eventhough not the best but efforts are being made to add more roads, mass transit trains, etc.
8. Whatelse I need? I don't know.. Yes, money, and life partner.. take your partner with you.. if alone, you can find one if you are not choosy. By adopting HM the King's self sufficiency economy philosophy and with your retirement fund or pension. Thailand is real heaven for not only the retirees but all who understand and follow his philosphy.. Happiness is not measured by money in your pocket alone.

do no longer completely rule out Pattaya. there is an area close to there many times happening as Jomtien sea coast that's certainly low-fee, it has a nicer sea coast, and is plenty quieter than Pattaya. a good number of condos have been equipped in that section in the previous few years, and the builders are having a tough time promoting them in the present economic disaster. once you are going to Krabi, although, i'm optimistic you will fall on love with the placement. i presumed the Ao Nang sea coast section become the main appealing place i've got been to in Thailand. It has a very comfortable, laid returned experience to it. i'm not sure how costly that's, all i be attentive to that's plenty extra low fee than Phuket. Kudos on no longer chosing Hua Hin. i be attentive to that the Thai human beings relatively think of rather of it, I only don't comprehend why. Oh yeah.....I additionally choose i ought to connect you

i want to retire rich... if i'm rich, it doesn't matter where i stay... Australia, New Zealand, Califonia, Bevely Hill, Canada, China...

But if i'm not rich, i might want to consider thailand as the cost of living is pretty low while the standard of living is relatively high. Nice People, nice food... and politically stable despite the coup...
