If you say you don't have your ID on you, they can't sell it to you. That's not illegal. What is illegal is actually buying the beer and being in possession of it. But just trying to buy it, no. What are they going to do if you say you don't have your ID? Tell them to F off and leave. They can't hold you against your will.

It's not illegal to TRY, but it's illegal for them to sell it to underage ppl, with or without an id.

Yes, it is illegal to attempt to purchase alcohol underage. Not only is it illegal for the attempted purchase, it is also illegal for the establishment to sell you alcohol without proof of legal age.

If you had phony ID -yes
If an older person bought it for you- yes
If the merchant sold it to you -yes

If they ask you for id and you dont have it they wont sell it. Depending on the state u live in it may be illegal if your not old enough to drink then dont drink
