The pain lasts only a very brief time as the needle is being inserted into your vein. Once it's in place there is normally no further pain. The amount of pain you experience probably depends a great deal on how much pain you are expecting. It's not a big deal at all.

From my experience as a regular donor, I can tell you this. It only hurts a little when they first insert the needle. After that, you can't feel it. The donation generally takes a half hour on average, during which time the nurses watch out for you. After donating, you are served a small meal or a snack and drink which you should have to avoid fainting on the way home. Afterwards the only thing you feel is great that you have helped save the lives of up to three people, how wonderful is that???

HERE'S THE TRUTH- it can actually hurt if the person doing you is careless, or if the needle sits wrong. It stings to get stabbed with a needle no matter what any locos say! But besides that, and above all, donating blood is about giving, and a little discomfort isn't that big a deal when you consider your blood WILL save somebody's LIFE!

Actually, it hurts only before you give your blood. You know, when they test you HB level with that prickly piece of metal on the tip of you ring finger and take out a drop? That's the worst part. Hopefully they don't use that method anymore where you come from. The taking of the blood doesn't hurt at all, even if they have to twist and turn the needle in your flesh to find your vein. Or if they have to take it out and do it several times to get to the right location. The drawing of blood doesn't hurt, but you'll get a sort of light-headed sensation afterwards, just sit and relax for several minutes and drink a glass of warm chocolate milk.

You will feel a little pinch/sting when the needle goes in. Other than that---it does not hurt. Do not get up too fast--you will get lightheaded. They offer you some juice/snacks for this purpose. The thing that will be very painful is if you dont donate and it is a friend or loved one who matches your blood type---and they cant get it due to a shortage because you did not donate. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is more pleasure than pain to help someone in need.

It only stings briefly (and not too badly) when the needle is inserted. You leave it in for a few minutes and then they pull it out quickly and relatively painlessly. There is no real notable pain while the blood is being extracted.
The whole process if over with quickly and then you get a cookie and lemonade. Plus, each donation saves - on average - three lives!

needles are very sharp these days and you barely feel them enter at all, never donated blood, but recently had 8 tubes drawn, its really not bad and even so would only be for a bit
Not sure how much they take, think its usually a pint, but not more than 15 minutes i would think. ANd if your donating the cuase far outweighs the shortlived pain, and thank you in advance if you do donate

It sticks a little. The needle is in you for about 20 or 30 seconds maybe, depending on the amount they draw. If you look away it's no big deal. If they don't quite do it right, you may have a bruise and it may be sore there for about a week.

I suppose the answer to that is suggestive. Personally, I don't think it hurts much at all; especially when you consider the good it does. The needle is in your arm for between five and ten minutes.
