A floppy disk can only have 1.38mb of free space

IF you have no other means of moving files such as USB Drives, CDs etc you can use software that will spilt a file nto sections small enough to copy to a floppy then you can recombine the file once you've moved it...

Here's the link for the File Splitter.

As you can see, floppies are very limited in space in today's PC World. You are better off buying a CD-RW and burn your saved data on these. Or, a Memory Stick. Memory Sticks very in size and cost. You can get a 1 GB memory stick at $15 when on sell at Office Depot, etc. Memory Sticks come from 64 MB all the way up to 4 GBs. And, newer once will be out soon with up to 8 GB.

Even with file compression, files over 1.40 MB will not fit on a standard Floppy.

You can fast format the disk by going to My computer and right click on the Floppy drive. Make sure the disk you wish to format is in the drive. You can also delete the files on the floppy directly, but make sure the lock in open on the Floppy (the little square hole with the slider).

If you have to copy files larger than the floppy can handle, there are programs that allow you to span the data over several floppies.

Why don't you go buy a USB Flash drive? They are at least 64 MB and bigger, you won't have to worry about space whatsoever. And they're darned cheap nowadays.

If you want to delete a file from a floppy, put the floppy into the drive, go to MY COMPUTER , and click on the FLOPPY DISK icon. A box will appear with the contents, go to the file(s) desired, right-click, and select delete. Click, its gone.

If the file you want to save is bigger than 1.44MB, you WILL definitely need a USB Flash drive. A floppy has a maximum capacity of 1.44MB.

hi,
The floppy disk capacity is 1.38 only. you cant able to store more than that. try to zip your file to reduce the size. the existing file in floppy can be removed by just delete that file by selecting that file and press delete key.
else try format by right clicking the floppy icon in my computer after inserting the floppy into the drive.
