Well you dont know until it happens. Each dog and each breed will have their own quirks when going into heat.
You should know all this by now if you truely do show and handle your dog. Seems like your a novice in reguard to this breed.

My dog came into heat when she was 12months old..There was some puss at first..and yes there was some blood around the floor that I caught..you can buy a diaper for a dog that will help and stop from being so messy..it isnt as bad as humans though..at least mine wasnt and i have a saint..I was also told by the vet that it is not set in stone that a dog goes into heat every 6 months..it can be every 3 months or even once per year so dont be fooled at that..just like humans we are all different and unique..Hope this has helped you some..By the way the first week was white thick fluid the second week and third week was blood then the 4th week it stopped ..it lasted approx 3.5 weeks from beginning to end..Also she got very ancy a few days before she went into heat..

If you dont want to have puppies and you dont want to have a mess to clean up then get your dog fixed.
Otherwise you can invest into getting some doggie diapers they would the dog doesnt really like them at first but after a while they get used to it and it saves on your cleaning time. Any dog who goes into heat will usually clean most of the mess up by themselves but then you got think of carpets....if you got them expect to find stains cause unless you see it right away and clean it blood can be hard to get up out of carpets. Its going to be a mess if you leave her unfixed no matter what it just depends on what you want to do. Also you may find that you will have strange dogs around the house waiting for your little girl to come out and "play". Though if you live in town the chances of this happening are slim compared to living in the country.

O tht is so cool that you have a show dog!
Well, you can never actually predict how messy a dog's heat will be. It is just like you cant predict a woman's period. My guess that is will probably be dry.... only because just like a girl, the first is usually barely any blood. If you are showing her, it would be best if you kept her out.... but if the judges dont care if she "leaks" i'd say GO FOR IT!!!
People will be giving you all sorts of answers, but dont listen to anybody.... not really even me. It could go either way.
I dont have a border collie, but my neighboor's pit bull went into heat while she was in maine, so I had to take care of her. She was 7.5 months, and it was her first heat. It was deffinitly a dry heat. She barely had any blood come out of her. It was really suprising. But then my daughter's friend's dog who is a lab went into heat, and it was very very very very messy! It was also her first heat, but it was like really messy!
So basically in summary, it will probably be dry, but it could also be messy. It could go either way.
If I see you on TV with you border collie named Laika Blue (really cute name!) I will be rooting for you all the way!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!! I'LL B ROOTING 4 YOU!!! :)

Well, I don't know about Border Collies specifically, but many times dogs will keep themself clean by licking.. some don't though, in which case you could buy the little panties they sell at pet stores for dogs in heat. Dogs tend to hate them though, so I wouldn't use them unless you have to.
If I were you I would keep her out of rooms with nice flooring until you know how messy she will be (it depends on the dog just like it does with people). Also don't let her be outside by herself - as you probably already know males will do anything to get to a female in heat, even mate through fences. An unplanned litter with some random dog would not be fun.
Hope this helps!

Purchase some pads & a panty for her, from my experience, every dog is different & every heat is different. It may be 2 weeks to 9 months before she goes into heat again. It will last 2 weeks to 6 weeks. No clear pattern for them.
Good luck.

Every dog is different, just like people.Your dog will likely bleed for approx 21 days, the middle will be lighter in color and amount.Purchase doggie pants from www.jbpet.com,they wash well and go on with velcro.I rec getting 2 pairs so you can always have a clean pair.Keep pants on dog at all times when not outside,to save your house!!

I have had other dog breeds go into heat. Usually younger dogs will not have a heavy bleed. Try to keep her in a closed in place so you can notice when she stops bleeding. DO NOT let her come in contact with a male unless you want some babies. I would not let her loose in the house, if you do that, because it may stain your carpet or furniture. Call you vet if you want more professional answers.

neither is a lot of a 'puppy'. The Border Collie has a brilliant temperament yet maximum folk won't be able to maintain one busy sufficient. The ACD is oftentimes a pushed, artwork-in straight forward terms breed. some like human beings, some do no longer, some are very lots one-individual canines, and that they are especially lots-customary for disliking infants. the two one among those breeds desire a job to do ... ideally, herding something. in the event that they don't have some sheep or livestock to recommendations, they'll 'herd' ... you and your infants, and not 'exact', the two.

The first time my dog was in heat she only bled a little bit. But sometimes I did find pretty big spots on her blankets. But there was never any dripping blood if that is what you want to know.
