I had a debate in my class today about women fighting in wars. The girl across from me started getting in my face saying women can do whatever they want to in the military. Being quick tempered, I responded with a myriad of reasons why she was stupid to even think that and responded with some info off the top of my head. I believe that women are allowed to go on certain patrols and become pilots but they are not allowed to be in direct engagement with the enemy.

Ex. A woman can be a nurse, but, she can't be a medic to a unit that will be engaging the enemy. If anyone knows where I can find more info or the exact laws that prohibit this that would be great.

times are changing... women are still restricted in some branches or units (like the Navy Seals) but in iraq u never know what will become a frontline or a battle zone... so technically women are on the frontline since they are fighting in iraq... there are still some restrictions to what a woman can do in the military... if you want to know more i would go talk to a recruiter

Women are not allowed to be in an Infantry MOS however they ARE allowed to be in MOSs where they WILL end up in a direct head to head engagment with enemy forces such as MPs or Drivers or mechanics...they always perform equaly as well as the men and there are several occasions where they have recieved meritorious citations for acts of valor in combat...women always end up in fire fights it's prety much unavoidable these days...wether or not they should be there is debatable and i dont feel like commenting on that

Well how about the ladies in our military who have been killed and injured. I dont believe they were sitting in the back knitting socks for the soldiers. They are out there too. Last I knew the marines accept women. Know their are some jobs that women might not all be physically able to do, but they are certainly an important part of our military - god bless them all

Lost my brother in law today in Iraq - R.I.P. Angel - we love you.

In the US Military, no, they are not allowed to be in "front line combat units" but as others have pointed out in todays asymitrical warfare it's not safety.

Israel, the former Soviet Union, and others have used females in DIRECT combat usage... and I agree... especially here in the USA where "they" scream and cry and demand "equality".

I flew with female pilost who were better than many of my male sticks.

For exact laws refer to Congress and DoD policy 1993

Nightstalker, you hit it right on the money.

No, women are not supposed to be on the front lines, but as she said, there are no "front lines" per say. So we are out there in danger just like the guys.

And Friendly, I'm sorry for your loss. :( Take care.
