The other night I was in the grocery store produce section around 9:30 p.m., and I noticed all the potatoes were covered with a black netting. It looked as if they were "tucked in" for the night. I found it curious... anybody know why this is done?

Potatoes, like many people, prefer to be kept in the dark. Keeping potatoes in the light makes them go green quicker. So ideally they should be kept in a cool dark place. I haven't ever seen a store covering potatoes, but it is the only reason I can think of.

i think potatoes should always be stored in cool, dark places, that's why they covered them... maybe they didn't want the potatoes to spoil too quickly :)

anyway it's the first time i've heard of such a thing...

potatoes always go to sleep at ten pm. the netting keeps the light out of their eyes.
