An allergy cough is really asthma. You need to get tested for it. What you need for the cough is puffers. Ventolin will relax and open your airways, and a steroid puffer like Flovent will keep your lungs from inflamming and filling with mucus. If you have a wet flemmy cough that is asthma.
If you get a really nasty cough with a cold too that is asthma...the wet flemmy kind of cough.
So the best thing for you is to stay away from what you are allergic too. If it's dust, keep your room free of carpets, drapes, stuffed animals, knick knacks and cover your mattress with hypoallergenic covers that keep mites (which are in your bed) from breeding in your mattress and pillows, and wash everything often. Wear a dust mask if dusting. Claritin etc helps but you can't take it all the time either.

go see a doctor and he would give you a best answer for that. It's allergy, if you did not get a right medication it will only make it worse, so I think seeing a doctor would be the right thing to do instead of guessing or trying things that you buy from a store.
