When I was a kid, that was the only way my parents could get us to eat them. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, so go ahead. Thankfully, I grew out of it and now enjoy them with a little pepper, but, it did get me to eat them when I was younger.

A tomato sauce or soup frequently makes use of something known as a GASTRIC which is the addition of reduced vinegar (Basalmic is the best) and sugar boiled together until large bubbles are formed. A gastric brings out the flavour of the tomatoes and combats their acidity, unlikely as that sounds. Also, it's your dish and you can do Whatsoever your little heart desires! It is good to experiment. Over time you develop a sense of which flavour combinations work and which will never work in a million years. Happy cooking!

By all means YES. I love sliced tomatoes sprinkled with a little sugar. Screams summer to me. However be aware there are two "tomato" camps...the salt and pepper camp and the sugar camp. My Mom is the former and my Dad the latter. As for tomatoes...I take after my Dad.

I am told that it enhances the flavour of tomatoes. I sometimes have ask about this when I am in a restaurant because I cannot have sugar. But my grandmother used to do it and we always used to put a bit of sugar on them or into the dressing.
So, go ahead.
Did you know that black pepper is supposed to be good for flavour enhancement in strawberries? Can't get my head around that one (though I love pepper), but there you go, each to their own!!

its perfectly ok but to get the best flavour from them try a good quality balsamic vinegar, its sweet as well as acidic and it will enhance the flavour of the tomato, in cooking to help make tomato sauces and soups taste better we use what is called a gastric reduction, which is basically sugar and vinegar boiled together and reduced to a syrup.
hope this helps

Depends on what you want sugared tomatoes for. If you're going to preserve them as candied tomatoes, then it's fine. If you're cooking a recipe that calls for sweetened tomatoes, that's fine, too. However, if the recipe doesn't call for it then don't sweeten the tomatoes.

You can add sugar in your tomato sauce. This will help with the acidity of the tomato.

When I do my sunday morning fried breakfast I always do some tomatoes. Some of the ones from the supermarkets are pretty tasteless these days. I know it is a cheat but I always sprinkle a tiny bit of sugar on them when they are done.
Cut them in half and fry face down first to caramelise them and cook them nice and slow.Only turn once then they will not fall apart.Serve with a bit of freshly ground balck pepper and a pinch of salt too. Yum Yum!

Why wouldn't it be? It is common to put sugar in tomato sauce because it kills some of the acid.

If its fresh...don't add sugar. If you're cooking with tomoates.. they tend to be quite acidic and some have a bit of a sour taste. Add about a teaspoon of sugar for each can (or 4 fresh tomatoes) that you use.
