I grew up in a non religious household... but married into one. My mother in law always pointed out to me the good that religion has on people... telling me that everyone needs some. She has since past. She was a very good person, and I agreed to instill what she said to me in my children.. I now have a 7 & 2 yr old. My 2 yr old has Cerebral palsy and by the end of each day.. after dealing with a son who has seizures, can't walk, talk, go to the bathroom w/out being in extreme pain, and struggling thru out the day with trying to help him cope with all of this.. not to mention teething, colds and making time for my 7 yr old, by the end of the day the last thing I want to do is look up and give thanks. I fact by the end of the night I am usually asking "when does this poor kid get a break"? Please if there is anyone out there with some advice I'd really appreciate it. I keep this to myself in my personal life, pretending to believe in god so my daughter and son have there own opinions.

Wow. You' re in a really difficult place. I'm sorry for everything you are going through. I can't imagine. As a Christ follower, I would encourage you seek God for strength in your life and for strength for your son. God wants you to turn to Him in these difficult times so that He can help you through them. I am convinced that if you turn to Him and ask Him for His help in your and your son's lives, that He will not let you down. I'm sure that He will show you His amazing grace and love if you just ask Him to.
No one knows why God puts some in these difficult, hurting situations. And we might never know until the day we come face to face with Him and ask Him ourselves. Sometimes He uses things that are difficult to strengthen us and force us to depend on Him. This brings us closer to God. What I do know is that God wants you to look to Him for help, strength, love and guidance. Lean on Him and you will see.
I just looked back onto the page and saw the people that are writing really harsh things. They don't know what they're talking about. No one deserves to see their kids suffer. People that say that are ignorant.
If it is ok with you, I will be praying for you and your family.

Vicky, what you need more than anything is some time away to collect yourself and take a much needed break. That's the first step, you can't be a good mom to your kids unless you are good to yourself first.

I know that sounds selfish, but I've been a single mom for 22 years, and I have had to deal with chronic illnesses in my children also-believe me, it's not selfish, it's necessary. You sound exhausted simply by your style of writing, and you are going to burn out and make yourself sick if you don't slow down some. Then what? Your kids need a healthy mom first and foremost.

Please, find someone to watch the kids for a few days so that you can go-with or without your husband-to a hotel or spa for rest and relaxation. While there, pamper yourself and get some much needed rest. Then you can contemplate what you just told us, and make some decisions about what religion you might like to choose, if indeed you wish to choose any at all.

Don't be swayed by anyone's opinion. Religion is a personal choice, and only you know what's right for you, and what works and fits into your life. And kudos to you for being such a dedicated mother. I know this is hard for you, and I hope things soon become easier. You might also want to consider having someone come in to help you two or three days a week, to ease some of your burden. Good luck to you.

Vicky,
Can you imagine, all what you see can come into being without the work of a brain (wisdom) behind it?

I am not religious. But I see the presence of wisdom behind everything, an influence that guides even the motion of a dust particle. There is a reason behind everything. One can instill faith into another. But that faith needs to be turned into a working power. In other words, the faith needs to grow as wisdom.

The true beginning of spirituality is in knowing our own self. That is the beginning of wisdom. That is the direction to God (I prefer calling Him - The Creator). Behind every creation His wisdom is there. Instead of pretending to believe, try to be closer to Him like a friend and talk to Him. That will make changes.

Religions are in fact the key obstacle between us and the Creator. They teach us about Him but keep us at a distance. Break that barrier and go closer to Him with firm mind, accepting Him as your Creator and so the Father....

There is always a better life. Even for your 2 year old.... there is.

I have been through alot in my short time on this planet, and I admit, there are times when God seems in-existent but for some reason, I still believe in him. I am not always happy with what he or she does (I think she) but I am still impressed with the beauty of the world and how it was made. Something tells me though that God might actually want to make life extremely challenging especially the part of accepting her because if we show just a lil bit of love and conviction for her then we get repaid with an after life of happiness for puttin up with life. I may seem very narrow minded on my ideas but I only say these things with intention because I have been through several religions. I went from buddhist, to satanic, to atheist to what i am now, and through all those changes I have not been more content or satisfied with what I am now.

Do not follow the ideas of others, but learn to listen to the voice within yourself. Your body and mind will become clear and you will realize the unity of all things.

The Buddha meditated for six years, Bodhidharma for nine. The practice of meditation is not a method for the attainment of realization—it is enlightenment itself.

-Zen Master Dogen, "The Practice of Meditation"

I am sorry that I can not begin to know what you are going through. I hear your pain and anguish (I have been through my own with my own children), but your trials are yours and yours alone. I can only offer my empathy, not my experience. I once heard a priest tell a mother whose son had Down Syndrome that she was blessed. It took me awhile to understand the reason for it. Today I can see why. I am not a religious man. I believe in a Spiritual life and I have a belief in a Creator. Our Creator has helped me and continues to help. I am forever grateful. I read your post and I see a very loving mother. One who cares for her children. Your children are very lucky, and, themselves are blessed.

God Bless

Peace and Love

It can be very hard to be thankful when all we see is strife and suffering.

Many people have told me that you just need to concentrate on what is good - as though that makes all the bad go away. I truly believe that they have never tasted sorrow fully.

This is a question you need to take to God. Tell God your grievances - your sorrow. The suffering of children. Tell God what is in your heart. Tell God all that has happened - and all the pain you carry right now.

A lot of peole believe they should only be giving thanks to God. As though that is the only part of our lives. God should be our strength in all things - especially in the most difficult. And how can we allow God's help if we believe that we aren't supposed to ask God in the first place.

Don't pretend to have belief in God right now. Everyone doubts at some point in time. And by pretending you are also doing your children a great diservice. In many ways you are lying to them.

Don't hold yourself back - and don't hold this all inside you. Take it to God.

We recommend to meditate to know yourself. As it is said to know yourself is to know God. Your essence and God is the same thing. We have a meditation room on PalTalk under interfaith section if you're interested. Here we guide people through our meditation process as given by Maitreya.

Who you should believe really only one person can answer that one for you and that is you. Such is the search for God. It is the only thing that you cannot get others to do for you. Others might be able to show you the door where you enter but it is you who has to enter.

Thanksgiving is the first Law. Many of us don't seem to have much to be thankful for but whatever you have that is good is from God. Good food, clean water, fresh air. Not all people have even that. We often take things for granted that we don't realize how great they really are.

It is a difficult question. I urge you to read more on our site where you can also write to Maitreya. I believe He is Christ but it is really up to all to find out who he is. You shall know them by their fruits.

A lot of times when I have bad things go on in my life I pray about it. Tell God how you really feel and pray for an answer about your problems. If you are truly honest to God He will listen and answer your problem. He may not answer it in the way you like it but in a way that is best for you on His timing.
