Why are so many christians saying, "don't play with the occult" or "people who play with the occult go to hell!"? Occult means, 'the unseen' so isn't christianity the occult? I mean we pray to god we have not seen, we ask for help, when someone prays a rosary or lights a candle for someone's well being thats messing with the occult, messing with unseen forces, angels, praying to dead saints, a mystical god, and banishing a mystical dark force. Well isn't it? Not to mention the bible has occult practices throughout it. There is David who really just lived in the future predicting events left and right. Joseph, (the guy with the amazing technicolor dreamcoat) was a dream interpretour. And the witch at Endor! What about these, online there is this guy who says that prophets of God are alway 100% right, now how can that be?

I wouldn't really include the Witch of Endor in that list. She wasn't a follower of the Jewish God. She was called upon by a supposed follower - but she herself was not one.
Christianity speaks out against the occult because of the way they define the occult. They see it as anything not mentioned in the bible as good. So things concerning witchcraft, tarot cards, prophecy that is not 100% correct etc are all of the occult. Which, to them is of Satan.
And yes - it is believed that a true prophet of God is always correct in the prophecies. Because they have a direct line to God. If they even errored once they would be stoned to death under Jewish law.
I would hesitate to place Christianity with the occult. I know a lot of people are going to say Catholics have those occult practices, not 'real' Christians. Christians have them too. But these practices are just more acceptable then others.

The Occult is all approximately examining the religious fact that is going previous organic reason and the actual sciences of right this moment. that's the learn of fact! So ques each and every thing, especialy christ being god! I grew up surrounded interior the thought n even have been given baptised on my own accord. This hasnt stopped me in fact i now endulge in historical n forbidden awareness each and all the time! Christians are against the occult becos they dont choose u to comprehend the fact! The old Testiment is in fact only yet another interpretation of the fact. there are various. interior the late 12 n early 13 century that they had a collection of squaddies (referred to as the Knights Templar) that killed off as many pagans as a threat becos the Christian faith has minipulated the old testomony to type a money making scheme!!! So choose for it, yet stay real to urself! AVE!

What they should be saying is- don't call yourself a Christian and play God through invasion of privacy- like computer hacking! Furthermore, the bible has been re-written and tailored so many times, as I have mentioned in a number of my past answers, that it has become more of a hypocritical document that is now commonly used for the purpose of hurting other people in the name of a falsely defined definition of Christianity! I can flip through the bible and take almost any verse to prove any point. For example, Corinthians 2 verse 6:
"If any of you has dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgement instead of before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are not competent to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church! I say this to shame you. It is possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? But instead, one brother goes to law against another- and this in front of unbelievers!

Christianity has a specific meaning for "occult" which basically boils down to arcane arts that aren't specifically condoned by Christianity.
Anything to do with Wicca, Voodoo, Tarot, Ouija boards and that are all seen as gateways to the demonic. Christians don't recognize anything outside of their theology as worthy of study. Rather they are dangerous. Even missionaries are warned not too get too involved in the religious practices of those they are serving, for fear of being sucked into paganism.
Personally, I don't accept the Christian position. Then again, while having been raised Christian, I consider myself Pagan. Perhaps I'm an example of the power of the "dark" side, but actually, I've done a great deal of study and simply believe modern Christianity to have it wrong.
Whatever though .... that's the way I see it.

There's so much in the Bible that's mis-translated. The King James was a translation of the Latin Vulgate bible, and that in turn was translated from the Greek (I think), and there were other translations before getting back to the languages the various books of the Bible were written in. It perfectly illustrates the phrase "lost in translation". For example, "thou shall not suffer a witch to live" (Leviticus ??--somewhere in the OT, anyway), the original word translates to "poisoner".
I would really like to have a version of the Bible where scholars of all the languages the books were written in go back to the original texts, and translate directly into English.

No, occult doesn't mean merely unseen. Occult things have to do with the magic arts, with spirits, with trying to use powers to manipulate things in order to get what you want to happen. The people in the bible you are speaking of were Godly people. They served the one true God, anything that happened was because God was looking after them and purposed what He wanted to have happen in their life.
The occult is the realm of satan. It is Godless. There are only two sources of power in the universe. If a person is not serving God..and playing around with "power" and "spirits", they are serving satan, whether they know it or not.

there's a distinct difference in the gift of "prophecy" which literally means "forth-tell" (as given by God) ...... and 'foretelling' future/visions via the use of occult practices.
The Bible is pretty clear on where God stands with divination, witchcraft, interpretting omens, sorcery,etc....
Deut. 18:9-11
Deut. 18:14
1 Samuel 15:23
2 Kings 17:17
2 Kings 21:6
...check out some of the above references, and then tell me if you think it's viewed as a "positive" thing in the eyes of God (according to HIS Word)!!

Bid Difference God is good, only wants good things for you...The Occult is Evil only bad things will happen to you. The Prophets were messengers of God in the old Testament. There were false ones too...you can tell the difference by the things that came true.

You misunderstand the use of the word "occult". In the Christian sense the occult is that which is "spiritual" but not of God.

You may be confusing Christianity with Catholicism (they're not the same).
Occultism is of the devil. Christianity is believing on Christ, that His shed blood washes away your sin and provides a way into heaven.
