Actually, one of his gift was a car that she did not want to accept but he insisted. Two years later, must she give him back the car he bought? She is so used to it but he wants it back even though he admits he bought it specifically for her as a gift for their relationship when they celebrated one year together.

No... it's a gift. Cops won't make them give it back either. Would have to take to small claims court.

To me, a gift is a gift, period. It doesn't matter if it was for xmas, a bday, just b/c...whatever. It is rude to ask for a gift back-no matter how much it cost you. Maybe he wants it back much the same as when breakups happen, people give each other back personal items accumulated during the relationship-it's a way to not have that person who was once close and intimate to you have any part of you/your life. If there is nothing to remind you of that person, it is easier to move on, or just knowing/feeling that they no longer have the privelege of still keeping an item from you which holds post breakup memories and which once upon a time had special meaning/sentimental value behind why you gave it to them in the first place...it's kinda like if someone is no longer a part of your life, the guy might be thinking why should she even get to keep the things that have a connection to him. The guy must be taking the breakup hard and feels this is how he can get closure...

A true gift is given with no strings attached, I think the guy is a real looser if he Purseus this, he gambled, he lost. IF he does succeed in getting the car back, then he is going to have a tough love life, because word will get out of this.

Except for an engagement ring (sometimes), a gift is a gift. If he gave her a car, and it's titled in her name, she is under no obligation to return it to him.

Gifts are gifts. She shouldn't have to return anything. Hopefully he isn't asking for anything back. Just break up and move on...

The answer is: treat him the way she would wanted to be treated if things were reversed. It's the Golden Rule.

Would she want the car back? Probably. So she should offer it back to him.

If the car's title is in his name she must give it back to him. If he put the title in her name she can keep it.

No, she doesn't have to give him anything back ... whether he bought her a tube of lip balm or a tropical island. Gifts are gifts. Once they are given, they belong to the recipient to do with as they please.

Small gifts??....No. But, something like a car SHOULD ABSOLUTELY be returned. You know that!

Adam has a good point.....If the car is titled in HER name, it's hers.....but, I'm betting that that isn't the case. If it's not in her name, it was never "hers".
