i'm iron deficent as well, clams, nuts, and meat are great (clams in particular, though i don't eat that that much), unfortunately when it comes to meat, liver is one of the best sources, beef is good, as is pork, lamb and veal. pasta is good, as is dark greens like spinach, and whole grain bread, they also sell iron-fortfied cereal. spaghetti and meatballs is an excellent source of iron because both the meatballs/meat sauce and noodles all have iron. Also get plenty of vitamin c cause it helps you absorb iron, so grapefruit or orange juice, etc....if you want more sources go to this link

I have an iron deficiency and know what you mean about the pills- yuck! The most flavor full way to get a good dose of iron is to eat cereal with milk. Even cereals like Cocoa Pebbles and Lucky Charms has around 15% to 20% daily dose of iron.
Other iron rich foods are meat, eggs, fish, and leafy green vegetables. Try to avoid tea while ingesting iron as the tannin properties block the absorption of iron into the body. Caffeine can block vitamin absorption as well.
