I wanted to say "no, of course not" but then I see how many people are saying "who? I don't know him so he must not be god" - AS IF they would recognize god if they passed him/her/it on the street?! Clearly nobody's seen or has had a conversation with other non-existent gods, either.

I will answer the question now: no, he is not, but he is a hero to atheists worldwide, giving them the courage to stand up and say, yes, I too do not believe there's a god either.

If you mean citizens of the USA ... then, No. If polled, most would not even know Richard Dawkins' name, much less his work. In case you haven't heard, our education system isn't what it used to be.

What made you ask that question? He did do a lecture tour in California. However in some parts of California, I think Plastic Surgeons and Cosmetic Dentists are considered Gods, but don't quote me on that. For all the progressiveness and liberalism, Californians are generally really hip with that Politically Correct Stuff.

Richard Dawkins, the author of THE GOD DELUSION, is in no sense the "new God of America."

........ Dawkins is a nitwit. I read Thomas Paine's "Age of Reason" several times over and any time anyone tries to debunk Christianity just looks so pitiful compared to Paine's attempt. Paine said many true things, and many utterly foolish things, but no one can compare to him in the criticism of Christianity. The idea that Atheists or any other group are the champions of Reason and Logic is just a self-destructive argument. Paine's logic was like a B+........ Compared to him Atheists are a cold F.

could be.
After all, America has so many gods. Almost like ancient Rome.
Money and the stomach are still to two biggest gods America has, so Richard has stiff competition.

Php 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

America HAS no single god- and it was a mistake to add: "under god" in the pledge of allegiance. We're not all christians, and I seriously resent it.
