Some of the Taurus models came with an anti-theft system built into the key, some didn't. Usually the ones that have the chip in the key have a larger key head. If you're not sure, call your dealer with the VIN number from your vehicle; or you can go to a hardware store and have a cheap metal key cut. If your car starts and runs from the metal key, you don't have an anti-theft system to worry about.

For wiring information go to http://www.the12volt.com and ask on the forums. Many professional installers use that message board and can help you out.

As for what's posted above, I have a remote start in my own '97 Taurus and it's worked perfectly since I installed it 4 years ago. I've put hundreds of remote starts into hundreds of cars, many older than that one, with no problems. If it's automatic, fuel-injected and starts with the key you can put a remote start into it.

Take it to a professional installer, remote starters are really tricky with the anit theft system. They are also really easy to mess up and ruin your cars electrical system. Most car audio installer know how to install a remote starter.

don't do it. your car is too old. if it doesn't fire up on a dime then a car starter is ******.
