I am exactly the same way! :) I've found that the best way to fight off these cravings is to drink a glass of water (sometimes when you think you're craving something or are hungry, you're really just dehydrated). I also try to get my mind focused on something else. Try to go for a walk or put in a good movie. Many times you'll just forget you had the craving.
Also, you should really do your best to resist the cravings. For example, so many people are addicted to sugar. So the longer you go without having sugar, the less you begin to crave it. Last year, I vowed to go an entire month without dessert. The first week or so, it SUCKED. But eventually, I got used to not having dessert, and I stopped craving it! It sounds ridiculous, but it actually worked for me.
It's also ok to give into your cravings once in a while. For example, I bought a small bag of individually wrapped dark chocolate nuggets. When I feel a chocolate or sugar craving, I try to resist. If I can't, I allow myself a small piece of this chocolate. It satisfies my chocolate craving, but in small quantities, the dark chocolate is actually good for you. It's has a good amount of antioxidants.

Split your meals into many small portions so that you never go hungry for long periods. I also have fruit with my meals and it works because I have a wicked sweet tooth but I never eat candy. I use this to maintain less than 5% body fat for the past 22 years. I think that it can work for you too.

Don't ever have chocolate sitting around at home. And, if you must, buy pre-packaged chocloates that take work to eat (ie: you have to open the wrapper) you may eat less. Or, just skip dinner altogether and you won't feel so guilty for eating that chocolate.

You can confuse thirst for hunger sometimes.
Fruit is also a good snack, low in calories, very filling. Strawberries, oranges, and watermelon are high in water content, which will fill you up more.
