Here's a question that always gets a church rocking:
How do you feel about the U.S. flag being flown in the church sanctuary?
This question always gets people talking - you'd be surprised how impassioned people get when it comes to God and country. Ask this question in a church group and you'll see a spike in everyone's blood pressure! Blessings to you on your search.

Well that's an interesting question to start with....
then ofcourse, following that you could ask:
- What they think the consequences of seperation of church/state will result?
- Do they feel the church 'universal' (all denominations in other words) working together is the answer to all the chaos going on in the world today?
- Do they think the church at large is sending mixed messages, and is that why people in the 'have' countries are resisting God's message? Or in other words: What do they think is stopping people from getting saved/born again?
- You could also ask them what laws/legislations they'd change if they had the choice to change them...
- You could ask them what they feel is the biggest challenge facing the church today?
(here's just a few...I'm interested to see what other questions people come up with)

There is no such thing as "separation of church and state." The First Amendment states the government can not make a law concerning religion or the free practice thereof.
So, it's unconstitutional to prohibit a child praying in school, or a teacher for that matter or prohibiting a judge from exercising his freedom of speech by putting the Ten Commandments on the wall of his court room. He is not establishing a law by doing that. A teacher is not establishing a national religion if she prays with one of her students either.
Ask your pastor about the doctrine he/she preaches and why they believe it is correct over another denomination.

You may want to think of other moral and political issues of the day. There is the issue of homosexual marriage and even homosexuals in the military. There was the general that stated today that homosexuality is immoral and shouldn't be condoned in the military. There is also prayer in school and teaching religious courses in public schools. This dances on the issues of seperation of church and state so it would go hand-in-hand with that question. Also, there is the issue of giving government money to faith-based organizations. You may even want to ask about abortion. If you check out recent events, like the scooter libby trial, you could ask their opinions on what is going on with corrupt politicians. It will bring current issues about specific situations into the discussion. I hope this helps or atleast gives you some things to think about.
Also, if you can think of any spiritual issues that you may want different opinions on, you may want to bring that into the discussion just for your own personal curiosity. Things like the trinity, worship styles, and infant baptism are just some suggestions.

Just be sure you understand what kind of pastors you are interviewing. There are right and left-wing type pastors, there are independents, there are fundamentalist and moderates.
Oh, it's not polite to actually ask them that lol

hand picked pastors are like puppets. i always thought a church should pray for God to send a good preacher who loves God and is called by the holy ghost. preachers who are called by the lord God will preach the truth, they.. will have a strong desire to lead the flock of the lord and they will begg for the lost to accept christ..there is no way out of preaching the truth, a man who does not preach the truth will be judged at the judgement seat of Christ... when a man pretends to be a preacher and dont preach the word i feel sorry for that man at the judgement day ..God means what his word says (preach the word of God) (nothing more nothing less.)..God bless you and keep you in his grace and love...
