Absolutely not. In fact I would encourage it greatly. This may turn out to be the single piece of evidence to catch a criminal if a crime takes place. While you rely on police to solve crimes; we rely on you (a civilian) to provide information that we can use to solve those crimes. While you may not can utilize the resources to run a license plate, the police can.
