Vatican I and II saw great changes and dialogue for the Church.

Will there be a third Vatican Council? Has there ever been serious talk of it happening in the near future? Would you like to see it happen?

When do you think it might happen, and what would be the biggest issues it would deal with?

Vatican III probably wont happen in your or my life time, in fact it wont happen in probably a few thousand, million years. Look at the difference of Vatican II (1960s) and Vatican I (Roman Times), WOW! Know I was born catholic and continue to be catholic for the rest of my life and from what I know about catholics, it takes a long time for them to get to things, I don't know who does the paperwork over there but gosh they are slow! So yeah their probably will be a Vatican III but not until 6000A.D.

The Ecumenical councils of the Catholic Church do not HAVE to be at the Vatican. Some have been in Constantinople, Ephesus, Nicaea (from where we got the Nicene Creed).

Councils are only called in response to challenges. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is actually a good motto.

For centuries it was believed that Jesus was both True God and True man -- and not one absorbed into the other. However, when some heretical groups challenged this belief, it became necessary to call a council and to "offically define" what had been believed from the beginning.

Since time immemorial, marriage has ALWAYS been between one man and one woman. Now that some are challenging that -- who knows if the Church will "officially" define marriage. Isn't that what several states and countries are doing now -- officially defining beliefs that we've had since forever? We never had to have the definition of marriage in writing before; the 1 man/1 woman relationship was understood and accepted by all. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".....no need to!

Time will tell if there is going to be a Vatican III.
I've heard of no serious talk.
I don't see the need 4 it in today's enviroment.

A world crisis threatening population: "China opening up to the Vatican", "Bird Flu", "Nuclear Winter", or "Genocide" against Catholics would most likly bring about a Vatican III.

I don't think there is a need for one. Vatican II reforms have not been fully implemented. We would have less problems today if these reforms were in place. Why convene another council?
Peace and every blessing!
