Michael Waltrip: Crew Chief Suspended Indefinitely
RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Wednesday, February 14, 2007
Update: David Hyder, the crew chief for Waltrip, has been suspended indefinitely for infractions discovered on the No. 55 Toyota during Sunday's post-qualifying inspection for the Daytona 500, espn.com reports.
Recommendation: NASCAR officials have described the situation with Waltrip's No. 55 team as "very serious". Crew Chief David Hyder may be facing a very lengthy suspension, possibly as long as one year. Waltrip himself may also be facing suspension, and it will be revealed later on Wednesday by NASCAR.

Waltrip's crew chief, David Hyder, and competition director, Bobby Kennedy, were suspended indefinitely by NASCAR on Wednesday after an illegal substance was found in the engine of Waltrip's car during Sunday's qualifying for the Daytona 500. A NASCAR source confirmed Hyder will be fired.
Both were escorted out of Daytona International Speedway by NASCAR officials.

You are correct that both crew chief David Hyder and Competition Director Bobby Kennedy were both indefinitely suspended by Mikey for "fuel gate" at Daytona. However, I heard during the coverage of Nextel Cup qualifying from Las Vegas on SPEED that Hyder has been REINSTATED by Michael Waltrip Racing and is back to work.

Maybe Michael Waltrip should worry about getting INTO a race and then worry about his old Crew Chief.
btw, Waltrip has around -10 points (plus or minus a few)

He was suspended indefinately. He can not go to any NASCAR events (except as a spectator). However, he has returned to work at MWR. Not as crew chief, obviously (your crew chief has to be able to go to the race!), but he still works on preparing the cars. SInce he was an employee of MWR and not NASCAR, he is allowed to do this. He will never be able to crew chief again, since they did not appeal the penalty (and the deadline to do so has already passed).

Hopefully NASCAR sticks to thier ruling and they dont ever come back. We dont need Toyota lovers on the track. Not to mention cheaters trying to get a jump start for a screwed up team.
