Oh, I loved that movie! Even though it has some discrepencies, so does pretty much every other movie on the planet. It showed us another side of Dale that many people hadn't seen before.

Barry Pepper originally played Roger Maris in "61" and he is now playing Dale Earnhardt on "3."
J.K. Simmons played Dale's father Ralph.
At night 1973, Ralph passed away from the garage into heart while Dale was looking.

Since I was watched the movie. I am very glad they did not really go into that details of Dale dying on the track. I remember when I heard that Dale Sr died and I watched the race. I had a hard time believing it and I did not want to feel that grief again watching that in the movie. I am glad that it even talked about Dale and Neil's friendship. It had some sad moments in the movie, but it brought back some memories for me too. I started watching Nascar in 1982. My aunt was a big fan of Dale Sr and she would talk about him all the time. I saw the movie Six-Pack and I heard his name in the movie and I have been hooked since.

I thought it was a good movie, but I found it kind of hard to take seriously.

Barry Pepper playing Earnhardt just didn't do it for me. While I was watching the movie, I kept picturing him as Pvt. Jackson in Saving Private Ryan. I kept picturing him quoting bible verses as he was shooting Germans with a sniper rifle.

I had the same problem with J.K. Simmons who played Ralph Earnhardt. I kept picturing him from his days acting in "Oz".

Once I got past that, I thought it was a pretty good movie. I have no idea how factual it is, but it was an enjoyable movie to watch.

It was a great movie with minimal dramatization. From the reviews I have read, the new movie, Dale ... is much better.
