A group old men are going onto Bureau of Land Management to kill coyotes in their natural habitat. Nye County, Nevada.

They are doing this for sport and are actively pursuing the coyotes.

This is not a situation where a coyote is wandering into town and I think it is unfair and illegal. Do you know who I can file a complaint to?

I highly doubt it is illegal; coyotes are generally an unprotected species. Additionally, it looks like in Nevada you don't even need a hunting license to hunt coyote. Hunting on BLM or National Forest land is generally governed by state laws.

The law is on their side Coyotes are not a managed game animal, but a predator that must be keep in check.
In areas of heavy coyote population most game species suffer from depredation.
Once they have reached a point where as natural and native food sources or in short supply then the coyotes turn to the only other abundant food supply available.
That would be domesticated animals, that no just caves, sheep, goats and poultry.
But also house cats and dogs for this is a very common food source for coyotes.
The hunters are not plundering nature, there doing you and those in that area a service by controlling a predator that few hunt.
With the prices of fur down as they have been for the last several years, these animals that were controlled by trapping are now no longer trapped to any extent that would be of service.
The Coyote, Fox, Bobcat, Raccoon, Beaver and Skunk plus so many others are going unchecked.
Their habitat is reaching a saturation point that will spill over in to your yard and endanger any domestic animals and or pets that you have, not to mention the mess and inconvenience they will make in and around your yard.
Do you really wont to have to stop and look close before walk around in your yard because of skunks or other passable concerns.
Stop to consider spring is at hand and with the wildlife habitat at a saturation point that also brings about the chances of rabies being more readily transferred among the many species that can be a carrier.
In all honesty the hunter even the predator hunter is doing you a service.

That my opinion

D58

I work on the side as a Nuisance Wildlife Controller for the state in which I reside, and I have to deal with the over flow that hit’s the residential areas.
The state does not pay for my service, those that need my service get the bill.
These hunters are doing that service that I charge for, for free.
That a good deal from my point of view.

I do hope this was of some help in understanding the situation at hand.

If they are poaching you would alert Fish & Game, but like everyone else said, they most likely are not poaching. Coyotes are generally thought of as a "shoot on sight" varmit. They are overpopulated and troublesome to land owners, and since many people lease BLM land for cabins and running cattle (and even logging) they are allowed to kill coyotes on these lands. They may even have permission to kill coyotes on BLM land they are NOT leasing, as the policy of your state may allow. You need to remember that hunting is not just a sport, it is a scientific method to insure a healthy and balanced ecosystem. While I don't doubt that these old guys are getting pleasure out of their hobby, they still are doing a good thing.

Please don't complain without educating yourself on the values of hunting and wildlife management. People made that mistake in my state (California) by voting to outlaw hunting mountain lions (instead of allowing the Fish & Game to decide) and now they are overpopulated and are wandering into towns and cities killing children, pets, and even adults. If you are sure what these men are doing is illegal, then it's up to you to report them if you want, but if you just don't agree with the policy of hunting coyotes, reporting these men will be a waste of state resources.

This is not illegal. These men are hunting a varmit that the BLM would thank them for getting rid of. This will kill you, I know, but the government even gives people money to shoot coyotes. So, I don't think you really have a complaint. Sorry.

Some property even though in BLM zones are private property, you can call local Tribal Police or Department of the Interior. have you ever seen the damage that Coyotes do to a small childs face and body or a family van that rolls end over end trying to avoid hitting one in the night time. you should buy those coyote hunters a BEER.

You can call the BLM or the Nevada Dept. of Wildlife if it makes you feel better, but they are going to tell you the same thing that D58 stated above.

I'm sorry that you are disturbed that coyote populations need to be controlled in this way....actually in most places they are out of control....but nature works this way, not the way they show it in Disney fantasies about cute animals and evil hunters.

The only regulation that could be breaking is if they didn't buy a lic Yotes are not protected and are not game in Nevada. It is a sport to some to hunt yotes.
