How about his first name?
You give nicknames after being in a realtionship for a while; and they usually relate to an inside joke.. Like how he loves nachos... you call him nachy or nacho.
Or like how he loves PS2.. you call him gamer..
That way it's something you can laugh about when you're alone; and he'll know it's not something you call all your boyfriends. And it'll strengthen the bond.
Other than that stick to the first name. Worked out well for me in so far.

After you've known each other for a while it will come to you: my example: he's got a little (big) belly, which I find attractive, so I call him "Belly" he loves it! He's got lips like a turtle, so I call him "Turtle" also, depends on the mood, and if he's wearing a tight shirt or if he's smiling! haha, just thought I would share! good luck!

If you mean a pet name, it should be one that develops from your relationship, not something assigned or whatever.
Try a few, see what feels right, and which ones he responds positively to.

haha my sister and her boyfriend have all these corny pet names like baby cakes, kitten paws, snuggle bear and snuggle buns theres so much more but I used to call my boyfriend baby and some other ones that really dont make sense to anyone but us but those are the cutest =)
