if the EU invaded china - china would have the upper-hand

If China invaded the EU the EU would win because the U.S. would get involved

The EU would be paralyzed by indecision. The various members would argue about what course of action to take. Most would demand more time for diplomacy. Eventually, they would wonder why the US hasn't done anything. Since the US has more soldiers in Texas than the EU possesses. In the meantime, China will have secreted an invasion force into the Med and knocks the French out of the war in a quick, decisive action. The rest of the EU, shocked out of its paralysis reacts, but a series of tactical nuclear strikes by China decides the matter. China immediately sets up labor camps and begins to indoctrinate Europe. Europeans, aghast at the turn of events appeal to the UN. Once again, the US and UK must come and rescue them. Only to be criticized about the methods used to liberate them. Then, 50 years later, people will deny the whole thing ever happened and call the Chinese labor camps a hoax.

In a fight where both sides had to project their power to an island in the middle of nowhere the European Union would kick the ever-living sh!t out of China. It would not even be close. The equipment, training, experience and doctrine of the western powers far surpasses China.

The Chinese AF lacks the support aircraft to conduct modern combat operations. Operational Chinese AWACS platforms? Zero. The vast majority of Chinese aircraft is outdated and lacking support, they would be swept from the sky.

Ground forces? A few modern tanks produced indigenously but only on a level close to the T-80. Nothing like the Leopard 2, Challenger 2, or Leclerc. Add to that the disparity in MBTs, IFVs, APCs and the fact that few of Chinese units are truly what we would consider to be mechanized. These mechanized units only train to operate at brigade level as well. Their ground forces also receive a lot less training and are sadly lacking in the combat multipliers take for granted like EW support, logistics supply, Command and Control etc.

The Chinese Army (People's Liberation Army) can defend China but is not at all capable of force projection.

On paper China is very threatening but they have a long way to go. One thing to take note of is the fact that China is trying to increase their navy (PLAAN) to the point that it is capable of protecting shipping lines to the middle east to protect its oil supply. As things stand China knows it cannot even stop piracy in the Malacca straits.

Yeah, like someone said earlier, China would win no contest. They're the only country that has invested in cyber warfare, as you can see by all the hack attacks we've been getting from them lately.

and more...
They also have WMD like many other large nations.

The PLA seems to be getting VERY technologically advanced:

google for more of that.
And the Europeans, well, just don't have it if they are still like they were in WWII. If the USA doesn't get involved I don't think they would have a chance. Hell, if we go at it with China alone, I don't think we would have a chance. The Chinese know so much about us and our military, and we know little about them. Needless to say, they have an extreme advantage.

Well, if this happen, France will want to lead the parade. Unfortunately, France doesn't have a very good military record of winning wars, therefore all China would need to do is park a few boats along France's shores, it is sure to surrender !

EU is made by various nation..a think its a bit hard for them to focus on the war starategy..against 1 large nation..china.

quality over quantity..if EU has some of the elite troops in the world..it would be nothing compared to the quantity of troops that China has, easily replaced.

Can the fighting include unethical forms of attack?

-One non-nuclear ICBM vs the Three Gorges Dam = 1/3 of China's population decimated. No deployment of troops necessary, as China would have to scramble to salvage itself from the most devastating disaster in Human history.

ummm, thats a hard one, considering the several modern countries with very powerful militaries in the EU, i'd put my money on europe.

Why do people include population as a factor for China winning, the EU has far more superior troops.

Go to a used books store. The Cold War is over but those
fantasy battles and wars yet cling to life on yellowing paper.
Buy one soon. Don't let it get recycled into a shoe box.

Good question, but no answer. Need to know what the situation would be that resulted in war. If I had to say, but with no guarantee, I would say China.
