I'm thinking about a honeymoon in Thailand next year. What are the pros and cons of having a holiday there? Can anyone suggest things that we should do there?

it's cheaper then most countries to visit, nice beach resorts, temples, landscape, and people. Enjoy beach activities, snorkeling, diving, boating, massages on the beach, visit Bangkok and it's temples, and the shopping is great and cheap.

Then again what is she thinking? Just thought I would ask.

Pros: Value for your dollar for hotel, nice people, good shopping for trinkets and souvenirs, food is great and the weather is usually warm or very warm.

Cons: Pollution in the Bangkok, pollution in the Chao Phraya river, Thailand is an emerging 3rd world country, yes the sex trade is evident though mostly at night, it is not as overt as everyone mentions. The weather is very hot sometimes and almost stifling to breath.

You did not say how long your honeymoon will be. One week, I would visit Bangkok and Phuket. 3-4 days in Phuket and the a couple days in Bangkok. Two weeks, Phuket, Bangkok, maybe Chiang Mai, for diversity.

What you do is up to you? Depends on what you like. Very physical or just laid back? If you never been in 90 degree heat and 70-100 percent humidity, I would take it easy. Not push it tooo much.

The above website has a bunch of info to help you. I have not been to Phuket yet, and there does not seem to be anything to me that is a must see except the beaches. if this is what you like.

For Bangkok, the only must see that I have seen is the Grand Palace in Old Bangkok. Very spiritual and grand place.

See www.bangkok.com for other tours like the Royal Barge Museum and River trips. There is a bus tour every day that takes a couple hours. You can bus or take a boat to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital, it's about 2 hours away.

Gold dome temple is interesting, I found it very spiritual, it is not far from the Grand palace.

Centralized shopping without going off the beaten path, would be MBK or Mah Boon Khram center at the National Stadium exit of the Skytrain.

I think people get too wrapped up in doing too much. Relax and plan a few things and if other things come up then do it on the spur of the moment. Just like there are some bike tours, that a couple of businesses offer. And for one reason or another I never get around to doing them.

www.thaiwebsites.com is a great all around site for checking out things for Thailand.

Oh yeah, you did not mention when to go. I would go from March or April at the beginning of the wet season. It does not seem to rain that early and it has been raining later than usual. it's also a bit cooler in March. And a lot cooler in November to January.

Good luck.

Other than shopping and Thai food, for honeymooners, I think
a few of pros are;

at very reasonable price you can afford
*romantic candle lit dinner at elegant river side restaurant
*beautiful beach cottage on a tranquil coral island
*glittering and exotic night cruise on the Chaophaya River

cons are:
I hate to mention but there are still lots of sex tourists.
Bangkok itself is an exciting big city but less suitable for
honeymoon holidays. Weather could be an issue if you come during very hot season, March to May, or very rainy time, Sep to Oct.

However, whenever and wherever you are visiting Thailand, I am sure you will not be disappointed. There are far more pros than cons.

Congratulations and happy honeymoon!

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand has equally old-world charm and modern comfort served up in an apparently crazy way, but generally with a pleased grin, see more with Hotelbye . Um...I would go where there is nothing to deter you from your loved one as is not the case in Thailand unless you want to test your vows, or maybe you are kinky and want 3rd parties or something. Do the traditional Fiji, or tropical paradise honeymoon and not the sex fair world you find almost everywhere in Thailand.
