The highest cause of death in the US is commonly said to be cardiovascular disease, but I've also heard traumatic injury to be the #1 cause, if you lump in all the automobile fatalities, blunt traumas, accidental traumas, etc. It's just a matter of classification I think, but if one were to definitively say what is of highest frequency, I would be inclined to say cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of mortality.

If you're talking about the most common causes of death, it depends on the gender and age group. In young people, it's accidents; after that, it's usually heart disease and cancer (both of which are linked to smoking).

The best way to stay alive is to not smoke, maintain a healthy weight and eat well, and wear a seat belt.

if you mean the highest cause of death it will vary with age
Below about 35 if will be accident. Above that the early cancer and heart deaths begin to rise. In the later years it tends to be stroke or cancer. A web search for cause of death by age will give you better information.

In the U.S. heart disease is the number one cause of death. Cancer is number two. Murder is NOT in the top 10.

Such an ambiguous question and totally not scientific but under one version of: "Highest" I would say being a martyr would be the highest.
